    External HD issue.

Having an issue with on of my externals. Its a 500gb, when i click it to open it says it needs to be reformatted to function properly. It also says its 0kb in size. I bought a partition recovery to back up the image since it still shows my files in that program but not in windows. I was told it might be a bootsector that went bad?

install it to your computer as a slave drive (second hard drive) and see if you can open it.

My friend that drive of yours has a bad sector, Try downloading a program that allows you to recover your data, then RMA that drive. I won't be surprise its a WD green drive.

I backed it up but it gave me 240ish disk images of about 2gb each. What can i do with that?

It gives me an option to fix boot sector

I just dont know what options i should choose

would it be safe to format the bad drive? or should i attempt more to get it fixed.

You should be able to format it and restore the image.

If that drive is really bad you will continue to lose drive sectors over time.
