Have not used Ubuntu in a while, but I loved it when I had it. Any idea which big brand laptops have the most compatible hardware set for Ubuntu. I've run into problems in the past getting driver support on laptops with linux.

The new 10.04 LTS is pretty much good to go with most all new laptops.NRA Life Member and Certified Instructor: Pistol - Rifle - Shotgun - PPITH - PPOTH - NRA Certified RSO

IBM/Lenovo has been good in the past with compatibility.
I have a $350 Fry's ad Lenovo that I upgraded the hdd myself to a bigger disk, and everything runs out of the box except the wireless adaptor. It installed the drivers (kmod-broadcom-wl) by itself, but it did require me to plug it in via ethernet to do the update. I would never discount this from it, since I still remember installing 11b with a text editor years ago! This was Fedora 12, now Fedora 13. Linux kernel is the one that worries about drivers so it's all the same.-BobbyComment

The linux kernel has come a LONG way with drivers... It used to be HELL getting wireless NICs to work in linux... but with the new 10.04 LTS, the liveCD usually comes up and works with most WNICs.Originally posted by Alan GuraThe Second Amendment now applies to state and local governments.
