I had somethign very similar this past weekend (when torrenting doh).

It was a malware that claimed to be legit anti virus software yet it nuked my avg from starting and I coudn't kill it via ctrl+atl+delete task mananger.

Can't remember the name but it took me an hour after figuring out what it was to kill it.

So I've downloaded ubuntu to a cd and attempted to boot it without success. I setup the cd drive as my primary boot device and I get a black scren that say: 1. FD 1.44MB System type -(00) starting caldera dr-dos. EMM386 3.27
Nothing happens after that.

Any ideas?

Its a bad burn of the .iso file.

Where did you download it from?

Also what program did you use to burn it?

DL is from the ubuntu site. My roommate burned it with nero. Burned as bootable disc. He says there's also an option for data disc. Guess I'm gonna try that.

Ubuntu? You probably burned the file to the disc, you have to use an ISO burning program to extract the tracks onto the CD, a ISO is a disc image.

Sounds like you've been infected with some type of Malware. On a different computer go to www.malwarebytes.org and download malwarebytes and save it to something like a CD or usb drive. Boot up the infected computer into safe mode and then install malwarebytes. Run a scan and remove any malware it detects. Hopefully that will fix it.

Quickest and easiest way to clean.... Download malwarebytes, boot in safe mode and install, run as an administrator, update and do a quick scan. Clean, reboot, and run again as administrator but do a full scan... You will be clean. Lose AVG, it is no good, download AVAST free version, register and keep updated. AVAST will also do a boot time scam that AVG will NOT do, which easily cleans these junk virus'es.

I have done this many times for friends, it is near bulletproof... no pun. I run AVAST and have never needed anything else... but more porn.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. Update both programs, and run them at the same time. It sounds like you have a Windows PC, so also download the Microsoft Security Essentials, another free anti-virus program.

naw, my VHMG cat hasn't been producing ever since i let you borrow her. poor kitty.

after my roommate finally figured out how to properly burn the ubuntu cd i backed up my files to a EHD and wiped the HD and reloaded windows. ubuntu was cake to operate once i had the properly burned cd. thanks again guys, my 1337 pr0n cache is safe again.

If you think Ubuntu was cake you should consider dual booting with that OS. It is definitely more secure than Windows and you'd end up learning a new OS. Could be a valuable skill in the future if your VHMG brothel doesn't pay off.
