Laptop w/ Bluetooth and a cell phone. Internet?

At work I cannot connect to the Corp. internet. But, I can use my personal laptop.

It's a Toshiba Qosmio and it BT capable. Since my Droid Incredible has BT and is internet capable, can I BT them together and surf the net without a wireless card or anything? Basically, I'd be using the phone as the modem.

You need to root the phone, then you can set your phone up as a wifi hotspot or tether is via USB. You'll need to get the apps from the Market. This website has a one click root for your phone.

If you don't want to root it, you can get the PdaNet app from June Fabrics. I was running the rooted wireless tether for a while and it was cool, but really wonky and unreliable for me. There's a few different applications that I use that interfere with it. (I still like having a rooted phone, though.)

Although I did have to buy the app, PdaNet has been rock-solid reliable for me under any circumstances and supports both USB and Bluetooth tethering on Windows and OS X.

That's why there's also a wired tether (and it keeps your phone charged).

I bought Droid 2 from COSTCO yesterday. I am currently typing from my laptop using a free tethering program called PDANET. This thing is great!!!

I get reasonably fast internet, and my phone stays charged up. This makes this phone and plan all worth the price.

fry's sells a tether that will link a smart phone with net access to a laptop for just this purpose. Oh ... it won't work with the iPhone though. SURPRISE! (not)

Don't use Bluetooth for tethering. BT can't transfer data past about 700kbps. Using wifi(hotspot) is much better. If you are going to circumvent the approved paid service via root, just be careful about how much data you are transferring per month so your account doesn't get flagged for review. Try to stay under 5-6 GB's per month.

Yeah, I wouldn't use BT for tethering. It sounds convenient, but these smart phones drain power. It's better to keep it charged up while getting fast speeds via USB, rather than BT which would drain power faster and give you slower speeds.

Also, my PDANET expired so I can't use https.....so they tell me. However, I find that I can use it. I went to their website and clicked the paypal link, which is https but it let me through.

So then I opened other tabs and started viewing and posting on other HTTPS sites and it's working again. I wonder what they do with the program to do this? Anyways, it's a quick work around for the https block if you guys want a little more time before paying them for a license. I'll probably pay them in a month.

This what you need. I use it often and it works very very well.

I downloaded pdanet for my Blackberry and laptop a few days ago. The server at work went down this morning, so I hooked up my Blackberry with a USB tether connected to the internet with pdanet. So far, so good. I have unlimited data from Sprint, although the agreement says I am not supposed to tether to a computer. How would they know?
