HP Pavillion DV 67000 Fan Problem,

Is there anyone who has swapped out the mother board fan, this one... http://battery-adapter.com/product_i.../3758#product0
Mine is making a lot of noise and sound's like its going to explode, from what I have read its the fan and can only be the fan...

    is it easy?
should I get the whole assembly or just the fan?
how much would someone charge me to put in the new one?

    FC

You need to open the laptop and clean the dust out, http://support.hp.com has the service manual. Every laptop has this problem, dust builds up and just trying to spray it out does nothing, it gets caked into the intake on the heatsink.

If he does that he's going to need to get some Arctic Clean to remove the thermal pad.

Not nearly as well, especially if it's a parafin wax thermal pad. Rubbing alcohol also will not remove all of the thermal compound, you have to get that stuff out of the dips and valleys.

have the exact same laptop and does the exact same thing. My solution? I went and bought a new quad core for $900, and use the 6700 for truck and off site work.

I understand what you are saying, but is this something that is hard to do? or should I pay the $110 and have Staples/ Bestbuy replace it...

I would use the money to save up for a new laptop. You can get an equivalent laptop for around $350 these days.

As far as I know, it is very difficult to actually get to the heat sink assembly in these laptops, hence the reason I didnt mess with it.

Before removing the fan/heat sink assembly, follow these steps:
                    1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
                    2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
                    3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
                    4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 46).
                    5. Remove the following components:
                    a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 51)
                    b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 59)
                    c. Switch cover (see Switch cover on page 61)
                    d. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 65)
                    e. Speaker assembly (see Speaker assembly on page 63)
                    f. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 68)
                    g. Top cover (see Top cover on page 74)
                    h. Audio board (see Audio board on page 85)
                    i. USB/power connector board (see USB/power connector board on page 81)
                    j. System board (see System board on page 82)

In other words it is a b itch for non computer techies like you and I. Hence the reason I posted to buy a new laptop if it bothers you that much.

It's easy to do, the service manual is pretty straight forward. You just want to open it enough to get to the cpu fan, remove that and there should be a clump of dust stuck to the heatsink. Clean that out and put it back together.

You can skip most of those, such as removing the display and sound card. Usually you can get to the fan once you remove one of the speakers.
