Buy one of these and keep it in your bag of tricks: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-005-_-Product

Then you will know if you need a power supply or not.

That would have made my diagnosis quicker than with my Fluke for sure. Does anyone know if 4.9v is okay on pin 9? Specs call for 5v. I don't know if that tenth of a volt is okay or not. It can make a difference in my world (automotive), but it depends on what the power is being used for.

I think that the .1 volt sensitivity will depend greatly upon the specific motherboard, processor, and memory as to whether it has an adverse effect. My suspicion is that the manufacturers allow for a small amount of variation. I just don't know what that level of variation is.

I think there is a best buy in San Bernardino. Google maps says it's 8 miles
            from CSUSB.

Since when do they carry power supplies? And even if they have them the prices will be crazy high.
