    Just Bought A Netbook

Got the HP Mini 311 thru Verizon. At $199 after rebate, I thought it made more sense than carrying a more expensive laptop around.

The Verizon 3G is built in so no aircard is needed. Also has wifi & RJ 45 jack. The processor is too slow for office apps but I plan on using it for just internet & email.

Display is outstanding, keyboard will take some getting used to though. I think the battery life will be OK.

Anyone else have this unit? It was kind of an impulse buy so I didn't do my usual research.

netbooks usually dont have a DVD/CD drive unless you have a USB powered one lying around

I use my Mini 9 for net surfing, taking school notes, and communication since it has a webcam. Light to carry around everywhere and battery life is nice

I will ditch the Mini 9 for the Alienware M11x however. Gaming power netbook ftw

Just a few hours after the M11x specs first leaked, Dell has put its high-powered ultraportable gaming notebook on its website for pre-order. It starts at

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

I bought a Asus one about 2 months ago. its AWESOME.

its the 1005HA, 1.66ghz atom cpu, upgraded to 2GB ram
160GB hd. built in N wifi, camera etc. best part is that the battery claims to last 10 hours, but for my usage, its more about 6-8 hrs. still pretty good.

It is mainly for travel use, surfing web, email etc.
if you want to burn DVDs you need a USB dvd burner which can cost around 50$

I use my Dell Mini 10v as my logging/tuning computer for my car. Beats lugging around the 15.4 Acer, that's for sure.

I bought a Toshiba NB205 a few months ago. It came with 1 gig of ram, but I put in another 1 gig stick.

My 15.5" laptop screen is broke, so I can't close it without messing up the screen. I pretty much only use the netbook now and don't miss my bigger laptop, seeing as it's 3 years old and the same speed as my netbook, if not slower.

I bought an external cd/dvd burner, which has been nice for installing programs and games. The only gripe I have about the netbook is how much it's slowed down after filling the hard drive, even though it's less than half of the 140GB hard drive.

You can download anything via USB, SD, or network. I put Office 2007 on it but I wouldn't want to run some of my business spreadsheets on it, way slow.

As a communications device however, I think it beats carrying around a laptop and the 11.5 inch screen really beats my blackberry for surfing.

just bought a asus 1201n it's rated a game changer and has been pretty awesome to do everything on including playing games and it has 1080P out to my tv for watching internet porn etc.

That HP is only like 300 online I would have saved the 760 bux you'll spend on your contract for data and become wifi hotspot crafty.

The Verizon Mini 311 has the N270 ATOM, I have a Mini 311 with an N280, not a lot faster, but runs office 2007 fine. It's not the snappiest, but it works fine. I even run Visual Studio on it frequently, but you just need to remember you're not working on a desktop CPU.

Try playing some 1080p H264 video out the HDMI though. The video playback using DXVA or CUDA is nice when travelling.

On my HP mini 1101 right now. Upgraded to Windows7 32bit and it runs like a champ. Serves its purpose perfectly.

Hey at least all of you can rest assured you don't have the POS that I have.. Delstar DS 700. It runs components from like 1995 or something haha. 128mb ram and it won't save data at all. Can't even change the desktop picture or anything, it will reset to factory every time it boots up haha. I can't even watch youtube videos or anything like that.. can't get flash player with this dinosaur version of IE.. yet it won't let me upgrade because nothing is supported by the windows CE that came with it. At least I can go on forums.. it barely loads Gmail though. Gah.. money well spent.
