If you have the original install media, there will be an option to format the partition before installing the OS.SECRET//NOFORN

Virus's have been going around, I've had best luck with Malwarebytes, along with a good pre-boot scan, particularly the Avast4Home anti-virus which is free. I have personally not had any problems on my personal and household computers using Avast4Home as my ONLY defense. I have, however fixed many using the common "pre-loaded" anti virus loaded on store bought laptops and desktops. They usually come to me with the current protection... OUT OF DATE!
If you dont want problems, please keep your anti-virus software UP TO DATE.Comment

Just format the thing and start fresh, any programs you've installed over the years and can't remember so you don't need will be gone, applications that run on startup in the background and rob memory and everything else will be wiped, its SOOO nice to start fresh every year or so.Comment
