Ipod to PC music transfer program.

I want to transfer my ipod music to my PC now that i have restored my computer and dont have my music on there. Does anyone know a free program that can do this transfer. Also one that allows unlimited transfers because i have almost 5000 songs. THanks

You can try to SSH into the iPod and transfer the files that way.
BTW... What's wrong with using iTunes to sync the music? Is it not your iPod?

No it is my ipod but let me start over. I had itunes on my pc with all my songs on it and my ipod. I then reformatted my computer back to factory settings so its like brand new. But the problem with itunes is that you cant transfer your songs over to it with your ipod with you could do with windows media player if your songs were mp3. you actually need to get a program that will transfer them to your computer from your ipod, then once that is done you have to load them onto itunes. I was just wondering if there were any free ones.

When you plug your ipod into your computer, you should be able to access the contents of your ipod from the "My Computer" folder. IIRC, you need to show hidden files and you can access those hidden subfolders for your music. There is a caveat through: The names of all those mp3 files are changed to basically jibberish.

There is a free program called Sharepod. I use it and love it. It does exactly what you are asking.

Try looking this up on www.cnet.com

probably better answers there along with software.

I like sharepod too because you can borrow a friend's IPOD and transfer all of his/her music to your computer. Easy way to share.

You can also call Apple C/S tell them what you are trying to do and they will send links to your email with instructions how to do it.

Set the ipod to work as a hard disk in itunes, then all you have to do is setup itunes to copy everything it adds and import the folder. It'll copy all the music/videos off the ipod to the itunes folder in music. Then you just have to uncheck the copy option when you're done.
