Thank you, I understand what DHCP means now. I have to get to bed soon and will test again. What I can't figure out is that I had the DHCP clients set to three (3), and the only thing we have here wireless is the TIVO and the PS3 (both working). Yet the main computer had no Internet connection.

I took the advice and got a D-Link DIR-655 router. No problems on set up, did the WPA security, and signal strength is up by 20 - 35 percentage points over the old Linksys. CD that came with it made it very easy to set up, even for me. Thanks all.

Your install disc program will give you a potion of having a secure or non secured connection. Usually youll have to choose a name for the wireless network AND a passcode

Did the name, and entered a 64 character long name that I had to also enter into the Tivo for the Tivo to work with it.

Blam, UR all set. There is a unkown wealth of router settings and abilities, your easy setup will do you fine. Different equip is what usually complicates a normally simple setup. The wireless adapter I use for my old school TIVO, limits me to wep... or best yet... certain allowed mac addy's. It's all good.

For the WRT54GL Router, and only the WRT54GL, I highly recommend installing this firmware on it. http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato This 3rd party firmware is outstanding. The configuration page is clean, simple and easy to use.

DD-WRT is another good choice, but Tomato does seem to have an easier interface. Whatever works best for you; WRT54Gs in general are freaking awesome!

First you need to check the devices you want to connect wirelessly to your router.

                  Do the do wireless B G and/or N

What type of encryption do they use. WEP WPA WPA2 PSK AES.

                  What are there MAC Addresses.

If all your devises can use G then set your router to G only.

                  SSID Off

WPA2-AES (personal) encryption. Use a 16 character Key phrase.

You want to turn MAC Address filtering on and to Allow only mode.
