how often do you buy a laptop?

last time i bought a laptop was Aug 2006. I still have the laptop and it works fine but i just want another just because. It has 80gb hard drive but I want at least 320 on my next one. I don't want to get a Mac because I personally thing they rip off the customer on the HARDWARE price. ok but the one reason why I would buy one is to dual boot snow and 7. I would be killing two birds with one stone.

so what about you guys? do you go through your laptops quick or hold on to them for years?

I'm going on 2 years with my current one (HP NC8430). Will probably end up using it for about another year.

I go through them every other year or so. My current one has a SSD (solid state drive) in it and all I can say is GET ONE on your next setup. It is incredibly fast, incredibly cool & quiet. Mine is a Dell lattitude and is rock solid.

I usually buy a top-of-the-line Mac laptop, then sell it in about 18 months.

I can usually get about 80% of what I paid for it. Then I just roll that into the cost of a new top-end Mac laptop. Works out to a couple hundred a year to have new equipment all the time. It's like a lease. Macs retain their value really well.

I will be having a Dell 10V being delivered today to my house. I bought it for my wife and will be the first new computer in 5 years.

About every 2 years is the average. It also depends on what you do. If all you do is send email and upload pictures then 4 to 5 years is good enough. I know of some IT guys who "refresh" their technology every 12 months.

SSD would be cool but damn those prices. Price is high on SSD and capacity is not that high

In the last 10 years, the longest I've had a laptop is 3 years and the shortest is 2 years. Current laptop is 11 months old.
