    Frontier 1Gig Fiber...

So being ~700ft off the road (~700ft driveway easement) with 3 acres of property between the street and my home, I didn't think they'd be able to get fiber installed in 1 day...

They laid the fiber on the ground, across the driveway entrance, and up the drive on the side, the length of the driveway...
    Still sitting on the ground.

I've been living with Optimum's (formerly known as Suddenlink) 300Mbps/20Mbps, before that ~200Mbps/20Mbps, and before that... in an AirBNB ~20Mbps-200Mbps/20Mbps to establish Texas Residency about 2+ years ago.

My first 1Gig pipe, it's up!!!
(Only had 500Mbps/500Mbps MAX before, and only for a few months...)

They say another team will bury it with a trencher, as they JUST, in the last month dropped it at the street, so I guess there is that.

1st experience was whack, I was only getting ~250Mbps/~250Mbps, wired OR Wireless the same, looks like an Asus Router config glitch, which I suffered from with a prior model in the past. Factory reset, and I can live with this, but gotta play the Config Backup/restore game, as I had in the past with my prior Asus router.

Pseudo country living in the city limits has benefits, I guess...
AND my 36 acre property has fiber being installed all around it, so maybe that property can get fiber, IF I ever get to move out there, too.

I guess they only trench on private property 6-10 inches, per the installer, possibly to not hit any water lines?

There is no telling if they will hit any lines. Rules out here are not really enforced when it comes to that stuff.

Frontier is hit or miss out here. We use it on jobsites and sometimes its great, sometimes you have to threaten lawsuits. Hopefully you got a good one.

At a jobsite in Taylor its a nightmare. We have to use Starlink there.

I had 1gig down and ~30 up with cable. Switched to fiber from AT&T and got the same as you. Lower latency was another big win with fiber.

Sonic fiber is available in areas of the Bay Area. $49 flat fee per month for 10gigs up and down. You would need equipment that supports the speed, and most people would not need more than 1 gig.

I'm finally switching from ATT fiber to sonic, after having ATT fiber since it's rollout in the Bay Area. Only saving about $25 monthly, but just something I'd like to have.

Yes, Sonic was a consideration since it's in the area. But, while at the AT&T store getting a new phone for the wife, they pitched fiber with the clincher of $40 a month for life. Time will tell if that holds up, but for now, way cheaper than Xfinity with no limits.

$40/month, I wouldn't switch neither. Mine start at $39 then worked its way up to $75. But it wasn't a lifetime offer.

Frontier Comm is nothing but a sack of incompetent lying A-holes.

I screwed up a year ago this month, and agreed to go fibre.

What they didn't tell me before. Is that all the existing wires in my large home would be dead. Cordless base station is now located where Fibre come into house. So we can no longer even screen calls. Or that my LL would go from PRIVATE for the last 50 yrs and is now PUBLISHED. Even thought they still charge me $5 a month for private.

Promised FREE BATT BACKUP. NEVER HAPPENED. I've got 4 separate pcs of electronic trash in boxes. After me calling repeatedly and complaining about it. They sent 1st box. Waited a week for a tech to come out and hook up. When he got here, he took one look and stated. NOT AGAIN. What they sent only hooked up to MODEM. But left phone and router dead in outages. After more useless electronic scrap. They finally made good on promise. [IN THEIR OPINION]. By sending me a box, which requires me to separately purchase a dozen C-cell batteries and install theM, which they suggested I replace every 6 months. NO theRE is nothing attached so I can use rechargable batteries and they stay charged in box.

JUST USELESS TRASH. 20 TO 30, junk, hang ups, spam, scam, and solar panel salesmen, CALLS A DAY.

DON'T EVER LET FRONTIER INTO YOU LIFE.

I agree 100%, but all provider's CS are 75% incompetent, and have no clue what they are talking about, they are just script-monkeys...
I cut the cable/phone cables about the time Verizon FiOS sold to Frontier, and never had too many issues with Internet, aside from a misinformed CS person on the phone when I tried to upgrade to 500/500, BUT that is will all Customer Service @ providers being misinformed, as my cable provider told me I can get 1Gig/1Gig, and I told him he was misinformed, as I researched it already, and he didn't know what he was talking about when I canceled service, after fiber was already installed, and running...

I believe I had 99.9% uptime, while still in Kalifornia, although I dropped TV and Phone (but had to cancel service, however AFTER I scheduled NEW install on the same day, saved $40/month with that trick).

I just found out like a week ago that another fiber provider is dropping fiber to my pole, so I'll be able to swap them fiber providers on a dime, and switch to the other when they up their prices over the competition...
                  WIN-WIN... ... ...

                  Prices will stay low.

I did recently cut from 1Gig, and changed the plan to 500/500Mbps, and the same day, Internet went down for like 2 hours...
~$20/month=~$240/year savings (Ammo Realoader-math?), as most of my services don't work @500/500Mbps anyways, like Steam downloads.

Not sure if they are F'n with me, but I currently am speed testing at:

Although, I did switch to 500/500Mbps, but hopefully all is well on the billing side...

I have 500mb Frontier fiber and it's solid. Their physical service is solid and dependable. Their customer service is atrocious. I'm glad I only really needed it one time so far since they took over FiOS from Verizon about 5 years ago.

Congrats on getting Frontier Fiber installed! Despite the initial surprise of above-ground installation, it sounds like you're finally enjoying the speed upgrade from your previous plans. The temporary setup shouldn't last long as they'll bury the line soon. Interesting tidbit about the limited trenching depth to avoid utilities on your property. And who knows, maybe your future bigger property will also get fiber!

It's already at the other property, already buried. Probably just a drop/trench from the junction box, like this house was, just a longer strand?
Don't have power connected at the other property right now... $45+/month just for the connection isn't something I have need of right now.
We just use it as a "~$47/year shooting range membership" with the AG Timber exemption.

We had a range membership out here, and that was like $350-$375/year, about $100/year more than the Range membership we had in Cali...
