    Comptia Security+ Exam

Has anyone taken the comptia security+ study course? Looking for a guided study/prep course (yes I know there are free resources- I?ve been through Professor Messer?s material as well as the book).

I am mentoring one of our helpdesk girls at work and helping her with her Security+ and Network+ certs. Shes just using a bunch of youtube videos and online training and then comes to me for explanations or thought checking. Youtube has some pretty decent stuff on there. I'd recommend digging into all ends of security and not just focusing on what is necessary to pass the test. I say that as someone who hires folks and certs don't always mean they are able to do a job.

CompTIA is fine but a lot of employers put more weight on certs granted by this organization https://www.isc2.org/ - best of luck, cybersecurity is a good career path!

You’re on the right track with Professor Messer. Get a book and do a few practice tests. Cover those areas you’re weak in. I’ve taken two of those classes over the years and they’re usually pretty generic. I maintain if you generally understand the concepts and put the time in to study those areas you’re weak on, then it’s just a matter of getting through the artificially difficult Comptia-ese exam. Honesty I think a lot of that is more learning what comptia likes to call things.
