    New PC Build

My PC build from 2013 finally crapped the bed. Just finished building this one. Hopefully, it'll have the same longevity.

Why the 14900? I hear they are not that much different from the 13900. I used the 13900 as I built before the 14900 came out.

No particular reason. I didn't do as much research as I usually do with builds. I wanted to get up an running asap. Just loaded up with front-line components, except the vid-card. The prices on a 4090 are obscene.

          very nice nishanh!

i did this yesterday for the kid. didn't quite become santa's little helper but maybe the issues with a lian li 011 air "mini" was too much for a young one. mobo vrms were too darn tall to fit 140mm fans let alone the 240rad on top. i was limited to 1 140 on top and 1 140 on bottom due to width. not sure the lian li offset brackets would help at bottom since the fans were too thick hitting the usb cable connectors and too wide (already at lip of case).

too many issues working with 011 air mini and their specs don't' take into consideration cables and vrm heat sink heights. i also didn't realize the aio i bought didn't come with rgb fans. it was only the pump! grrr

i think it's cooling enough. i was running it w/o the covers and being in front of it facing the gpu, i was getting cold. will have to monitor to see if i need 2x120mm fans for extra cooling.

ps - the x pattern for thermal paste is a pita to remove. unsure if it's creating some air pockets or vacuum (didn't seem to be it), but when i realized something was wrong with one stand off, it was a pita to remove the pump block. (vs. using the pea method).

I also upgraded my PC over the holidays, but just the core. Went from an AM4 motherboard and Ryzen 5950X with 32 GB DDR4 RAM to an AM5 motherboard and Ryzen 7800X3D with 64 GB DDR5 RAM. Kept everything else. Since the AM4 platform is at a dead end, I wanted to get out of it while the parts I had were still valuable, and the holiday sales definitely helped convince me. After selling my old core, the upgrade only cost me about $300 give or take, so it was a no brainer. Full water cooling loop with a Swiftech MCP655 pump, and Corsair X5 and X7 rads, and a bunch of Noctua fans.

Yeah those are selling for retarded prices. No way I'd pay what they're going for now. Keep an eye out for the 4080 Super line of cards to come out soon though, that would be a good time to snatch one up. It's harder for me to find video cards because I look for those with a factory water block and they're not nearly as common.

Nice build OP. I personally would have gone 13
Gen or current Ryzen on the CPU but overall that’s a smoking rig. Enjoy.

(I just received the alien ware monitor as a gift myself and I have to say I can’t go back to a normal gaming Monitor after this. It’s just soooooo good ).

Very nice. One of these days I'm going to do a full-bore water-cooled build instead of cheesing out with an AIO - lol. What kind of temps do you get with that setup?

When quoting system temps be sure to include room temps. They affect the system temps.

Nicely done. I changed from an open loop system back to an AIO after I got fed up with troubleshooting during an upgrade. Having to flush and refill the system multiple times got to be a real pain in the @ss.

any recommendation for a 90 deg gpu power connector? kid's build actually hits the glass. not that it's causing issues, but it's always a pita me thinking about reinstalling the glass panel and all the wiggling that happens.

only concern i have is depth and if enough to clear the gpu body. there seems to be some overhang from the gpu body since the power connectors aren't flush to the edge. most i see on amazon or internet look kinda short to clear the edge of gpu body.

                          I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CBWLN5NK

There is a "Type A" and "Type B" variant. I bought the Type-B which points upwards.

Be careful on what brand you buy for the right angle connectors. Well known brand has recalled 2 versions of theirs. Bad connection leads to heat.

Since I am not a gamer I am happy with the video on the i9-13900K chip.

I've heard this as well. Thus far, it doesn't seem excessively warm nor is there any evidence of heat-related distortion. I think Nvidia dropped the ball on the connector placement though. These cards are huge. They could have supplied their own offset connector, or better yet, reoriented the native one the card itself so people wouldn't be forced into an aftermarket solution.
