how to STOP auto update ?

I am running win 10. I have my active hours set to not update during active use. BUT.....this damn thing still updates during use. it is frustrating to the point that I would consider switching to a apple laptop, just to get away from this windows mess. any ideas ?

If you go to Settings / Windows Update / Advanced Options, there is an option to "Pause Updates" for up to 35 days.

More things to check / note:

    - There is (same place as above) a setting "restart this device as soon as possible when a restart is required to install an update" - turn that OFF. That might be your problem

    - The below tools are very helpful & useful, I believe one of these tools have the option to totally disable Windows Update (be very careful, but you can disable / enable as you like & actually CONTROL your own property...what a concept!)

    WinAero Tweaker:

I've used both of these tools extensively for years across multiple PC's & have't had a single issue caused by either of them.

    - Again under "advanced options"; check & shut off "restart this device as soon as possible when restart is required...."

    Good luck.

Set your internet connection as metered and the updates will not happen. The one thing you need to watch is if you log on somewhere else, it will download the updates that you missed and that can tie up your computer for a while.
