Question for an AT&T modem/router tech:

Question for an AT&T modem/router tech:

Back story: When AT&T gave their landline/DSL service to Frontier they pulled our landline/DSL and replaced it with Uverse. Prior to Uverse we had battery backup for phone service; not so with the Uverse setup.

I got a UPS just for the modem/router and testing by unplugging the UPS from the outlet, all pilots stay lit; POWER/BROADBAND/PHONE. There is a dial tone. Everything is working. The modem/router are the only units plugged in the UPS. PC/monitor/etc have their own UPS's.

However in a real power outage, I lose the phone. The POWER/BROADBAND pilot lights remain functional, but no phone and no dial tone.

I've been working with the UPS Customer Service for a couple of weeks on this repeating various tests, flipping circuit breakers, etc. They have been very helpful; no comment on AT&T at this point.

    The Question:

Obviously in a real power outage, the phone service is cut on the outside prior to the modem it appears, or is it? If BROADBAND is still up, why not the phone? Are there other factors with Uverse that I need to be aware of?

Phone/Internet are the only AT&T service, no TV.

    Any guidance will be appreciated.

Note: Cell cannot provide what is needed.

Thank you. PM me if preferred.

    Respectfully
    Kyle

Are you sure it isn't your phone's base station that loses power (assuming it's a cordless phone)? The phone also needs to be connected to the UPS in order for you to have a working landline.

It's not cordless, and modem power connected to UPS. Ethernet connected to UPS only provides surge protection but not power.

I've been working with the UPS Customer Service (which have been great). The following as per the UPS customer service:

The UPS will power the modem, the Ethernet connection will provide surge protection to the Ethernet line but not power. It appears that when the power goes out in the area, it take out AT&T's fiber optic. At present we do not have fiber optic to the residence; still copper. Fiber optic is a block away and feeds our copper.

When the power goes out the UPS still powers the modem and the Ethernet connections but the phone dies.

If my power is out local (my residence, circuit breaker, etc. the modem/Ethernet/phone stay powered); outside power failure phone dies, hence no Uverse fiber optic.

AT&T has been less than helpful, but basically it sounds like AT&T does not have power back up for the fiber optic line that feeds the box that feed my copper.

Whether fact or fiction haven't a clue.
