Linux - Ubuntu 18.04LTS - External Hard Drive Question

Hi all!

Question for the group - I'm looking for a good, large, not terribly expensive hard drive in the 10-20TB range that can plug into a USB port and be mounted via command line without any drama

Seems a lot of the modern offerings have some goofy GUI password thing that requires a Win/Mac OS and I can't have any of that junk.

Any recommendations of a "plug and play" external USB HDD?

Why not reformat the drive to remove all that crap? Start with a blank slate.

The end user of this (not me) is not capable of fdisk, I can talk them through a mount command and editing fstab but I think anything more than that and they will freak right out.

Format the drive as ext4 using Ubuntu's preinstalled Disks GUI. Ubuntu desktop (not server) should have automount installed by default

Asked some of my coworkers - leaving this here in case anyone else finds it helpful...

USB disks not preferred, not that much more expensive to do a baby QNAP and throw 2x 8TB drives inside for $460 with free returns on Amazon
