    How hard to

go from Windows 7 to Windows 10/11/etc???
Time for a new lap top for the wife.
She only does email, web searches, Youtube, etc.
    No game playing, etc.
So, just need a basic computer, powerfull enough to be fast.
How hard will it be for us to use the latest windows?
Any cravats or recommendations for a new laptop??

Win 10 is definitely different than Win 7, but it's just a matter of getting used to it. I have no experience with Win 11.

I recommend Lenovo. They get good reviews.

Whichever laptop you buy, be sure it has a SSD (500 GB is best) for the hard drive and at least 8 GB of RAM. Also obtain an external drive to use for backup. Also get one with a larger screen for more comfortable viewing.

Once you get it, uninstall the junk/trial software you don't need. Be careful to not remove any Lenovo specific drivers.

Once you've cleaned it up, do a full backup and then install your favorite software and upload your personal files. Once that's done, repeat the backup.

    You should be all set.

Let us know what you decide and how you like it.

Windows sucks. If it is just browsing and poo-tube get a chrome book and call it a day. My wife has the last Windows machine that will ever exist under my roof. I use a Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu for work and use an 8GB Raspberry Pi4 running Bullseye (Linux Debian) for my desktop machine. I told my wife if she wants to get a new laptop she better get a Mac cause I refuse to do Windows support anymore. She already knows I hate Apple products but at least they are easy to use and don't require a live in tech.

A Chromebook will do well everything you said she wants to do. And they are inexoensive.

We are in the market for a new laptop, too. Just checked online and chromebooks come from google, literally one of the most evil companies on the planet.

It’s not horrible. A year or two, maybe more I don’t remember, we “upgraded” our entire company to Win10. People didn’t really have any issues with it. Win11 is basically the same except they buried all the features you actually use a menu or two deeper. Stuff like right click/copy is now right click/more options/copy. They make each edition stupider and stupider. I dunno what kind of Indians they are hiring but they need to up their game.
