    New PS for PC

    Built new PC. New PS is fancy with a digital readout on the side showing power, fan speed and temp. Installed with fan facing up into the cabinet. It even has lights to look at! But mounting this way the readout faces the inside of the cabinet. Turned it over so I could see the readout. But now the fan faces down. The bottom of the case is perforated but the air blast hits the surface the PC is on. About 1? of clearance.

    Would this not severely restrict airflow? Or should I assume the PS maker took this into account? Current reading is 31c.

    Edit: I have been informed the PS pulls from the fan and exhausts out the back. Still have the question about reduced airflow.

    You installed backwards and now have it in correctly? If it's in correctly, you're good to go.
    If it is a "fancy" PS, the fan may run at a very low RPM or not at all, depending on power needed.

      In correctly now. At idle PC watts are 54, rpm is 719 and temp is 31c.

        Back when I started building PCs in the early 2000s, the go-to method was mounting the PSU with the fan facing inside (towards the motherboard and video card) to draw the heat out of the chassis.

        These days, with PSUs and chassis getting more advanced in design, I prefer to have the PSU facing away from other components (my chassis has a separate vent on the bottom with a "dust filter") to draw cool air into the PSU and cool it off, rather than draw hot air from the other components. One may argue this may draw more dust, but I found my PSUs to last a bit longer with my components with this current setup than the go-to method of the past.

        TLR; I prefer your new method of mounting. The previous method was what everyone did in the past, but it's all personal perference.
