    Front Door Smart Lock

Anyone using a smart lock on their front door? I?m interested in one that will lock the deadbolt at a certain time and lock and unlock it remotely when we?re not home.

Primarily looking for one that controls the deadbolt from the inside; I don?t need an outside keypad, etc.

I hear they?re aren?t ready for prime time, mostly due to battery life. Anyone have any experience with them?

    Thx.

Look into Wyze. It replaces the inside part of your lock (outside looks the same).

You can lock and unlock remotely and create rules (such as lock and unlock on a schedule). It can also auto lock when the door is closed, among other things

august smart lock can be added to your existing lock hardware in case you don't want to do replace. i am looking into added a dead bolt to my door and have to drill out a hole through the door. seems a little daunting.... a swap would be easy if your dead bolt is detached from the door knob.

Get a locksmith or handyman to come out and do the install of the deadbolt and ?door armor? (reinforcements to the strike plate, longer screws etc)

The kind I've seen have a key override. The problem with that is anything with a key can be picked.

The front of the lock is the same and the internet enabled part is the back that?s inside the house

My $.02 get a security lock like medeco that?s harder to pick, reinforce the hinges and strike plate area, and put security film or bars on windows, use 2 factor authentication on smart lock account and use a strong password for Wi-Fi and get on with life?

I have an August smart lock from Home Depot. Integrates with Alexa/Google Home so you should be able to run some ITTT stuff on it for IOT home automation. I've had mine for three years and just now it started to complain about the battery.

Have to make sure the door is stable all year ( heat and cold).
Sometimes doors expand if in direct summer sunlight and shrink in really cold weather causing the deadbolt latch to slightly misalign and hang up on the strike plate surrounding the hole for the bolt. Like when you lock the door and you have to pull or push the door while locking to get the bolt to line up perfectly. That will cause the smart lock to fail to lock or unlock

This is actually the model I?m considering.

We put the battery powered/keypad locks on all our doors. We aren’t quite ready for “internet” connected locks yet.

I will say it is incredibly convenient to not have to carry a house key. My wife is famous for locking doors when I’m outside doing yard/shop work. No problem anymore as I just do a quick code and I’m back in the house.

If a bad guy wants in your house he?s not going to take the time to hack your smart lock.

Im using Kwikset Z-Wave SmartCode 910 dead bolt. Its only smart with a z-wave controller. With Home Assistant it auto locks the door when closed and I can unlock it with their app.
