Water / weather proofing a mesh node- thoughts

Friends are stuck with a bad single router and I've talked them into spending some $$$$$ and getting a mesh system.

They have a big rooftop deck and I think running cat 6 in conduit out to the edge of the deck would be a benefit as the deck and yard would have solid coverage.

I was thinking of a harbor freight pelican as an enclosure.

There is no shelter at the end of the deck.
No eves for sun / rain shelter.

Has anyone built / assembled an enclosure for a node?

Why not just buy outdoor APs?

Need to be aware of heat both in placement and weatherproofing. Components inside, while they don't typically generate a lot of heat, when enclosed and/or in direct sunlight it can accumulate.

I just use outdoor rated Unifi equipment. I have had a switch, mesh access point and several cameras on the roof for years in some really harsh conditions. The equipment has survived five Palm Springs summers without a problem. It?s pretty amazing what some of this equipment can withstand.
