Wiping and writing zeros to dead SSD (kidding)

I have a Samsung 850 that died somehow. It was pulled from one of my machines, sat in a pile, placed into another machine, and was not recognized. I didn't bother with warranty because it could have been my fault (zapped), it wasnt working, and I didnt know what was on it. I needed to wipe it and write zeros to it. Here's how I was able to do it:

Mapp torch / blow torch would work just as good. Large drill bit through the ICs, 3lb sledge hammer - no need for high tech

I kill several SSDs a year due to excessive read/write on a NAS cache. Hammers are my friend. Bleach bit is yesterday and time consuming.

It was $3k on ebay free freight shipping. It's an expensive toy, kinda like a used dirtbike, but cheaper than a side by side . 50w Raycus fiber laser. I think theyve gone up +10% in the past few months. This is a Cloudray. Ordered it on a Monday night, shipped via freight and arrived at the door Friday. I almost had it all setup before the wife noticed. Almost.

I justified it because I hated setting up stuff for engraving on the CNC. Breaking bits, fixturing stuff, etc. I had a bunch of stuff I was going to engrave, but never committed to it since I wasnt completely sure of the design and it would be an all day thing. The thought of engraving something without a rigid setup, special fixture, and no tools to break made it an easy purchase.

Nah we used to blast that stuff all the time. The ranges were cool with it as long as we picked up the mess.

                      Ranges?

                      My range is the desert.

                      I don't leave mess either.

I have a FFL07 friend that brings stuff over to get engraved. Sometimes its for his customers. If its metal, I know the laser will ablate the material and make a clean engrave per ATF specs in a few passes. Sometimes its polymer and its all over the place where it kinda absorbs, kinda vaporizes, and heats up and melts the area. So I like to laser stuff to see how it reacts. Sometimes its a few full powers passes, done. Other times its lowest setting hundred times with lots of air to cool things off. So I like to play with it as much as possible to get a feel for what a 50w 1064nm laser reacts with. You can even see in the 00 vid that theres some parts that are not absorbing the laser as well. The zeros should be solid, but theres lines going across it. When I flip the board over you can see parts of the other integrated circuits that didnt absorb the laser at all.

Plus, its a frickin laser. If I can do it with a sledge hammer or a laser, then laser it is
