Microsoft is pushing ads to Windows 11 in their next update for anyone using a local account. This is to annoy you into signing up with a Microsoft account so they can better harvest your data.

And that's yet another example of why I ditched Microsoft and went with GNU/Linux, specifically Kubuntu. I encourage others to do likewise."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"

I have a new Win11 install with local account. I have seen no ads. There are options to turn off a bunch of stuff.#NotMyPresident

I remember Microsoft said Windows 10 was the last Windows.
And that there would simply be enhancements to it forever.
Then they changed their mindsComment

I'll be stuck with Win 10 since my CPU is not compatible with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module). My mother board can accept the chip, though, so I'd have to upgrade my CPU.
Win 10 support will continue until 2025, I believe, unless MS changes their mind.
I do recall MS saying Win 10 would be the last Windows. Uh, yeah. Right.

There is a work around if you really want to go for W11 either google it or go to youtube for it. I am running W11 on one of my laptops that is 8 years old and does not have a supported CPU or TPM chip.I'll be stuck with Win 10 since my CPU is not compatible with the TPM (Trusted Platform Module). Depends on your use case. Linux is fine for niche situations or very basic users, or like me if you just want to run small footprint and super reliable, yet free servers, but there's still not nearly enough third party support for a complete transition to Linux. There's no way I can get away from Windows, but I also have a house full of computers so I'm not limited in what I can use.Comment

I'm not sure why some people keep saying, "no way I can get away from Windows". I went Microsoft-free in 2003 and haven't looked back. Haven't had to. I have put Kubuntu GNU/Linux on several people's computers, because they were having problems with Microsoft Windows, and they had no trouble at all. Twenty years ago, there were some 3rd-party support issues with GNU/Linux, but that was 20 years ago. The situation has changed drastically today, to where GNU/Linux actually supports more stuff now than Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 does. I've actually run into that; I tried using some devices on my wife's Windows 10 and 11 laptops. No driver available. Put 'em on my Kubuntu box, worked without issue.Depends on your use case. As for "very basic" users, sure, they can use GNU/Linux just fine, I agree with you on that point. But that's only half of the truth. See, in addition, it also accommodates much more advanced users like I have become over the years (I'm now a systems engineer, in good part thanks to GNU/Linux). Time and again whenever I've been asked to help someone on a Microsoft Windows box, I go to do something and rediscover, "oh yeah, you can't do that on Windows". And that's happened a lot. I go to my GNU/Linux box and take care of it in seconds. It's great.Last edited by Cowboy T; 05-02-2023, 7:22 AM."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"
