What else can i do with win7?

have my old laptop and the old setup disk/OS for win 7. was thinking of putting win7 back and not update or on network. why? it was a little annoying trying to connect my old oneplus 2 to put an older ROM on it. having a hard time using win11 (not even showing as USB). win11 asks me to put it in some kind of test mode to bypass some licensing thing, which I did and still won't connect. can't seem to get ADB to work either to side-load.

anything else you'd use win7 for? i just need to put back the battery, m2 sata and i think that's it. given i can't seem to stop updates, wouldn't be wise to get connected on internet

Put your favorite Linux distro on it and profit!

lol i thought about picking up more linux though i rarely have time for it. it's been on the "list" and even had a dedicated HP ux machine in the late 90s from an acquaintance from IT that had a old/spare learning one. i don't mind command lines either and started installed some distro back then. i think it was red hat i tried with ui but alas, time just passes.

i see some stuff on rom updates that seem to need older windows that's why. unsure what else i can use it for (as windows 7)

i can make it a torrent machine but that might take more power than a nas

You can put Mach3/4 on it and drive a CNC machine. Or Cypcut and drive a fiber laser.

Honestly I usually let the task direct the system and not the other way around. It’s just a computer and the hardware specs are more important than the OS. Use it to hack your neighbors Wi-Fi.

Windows is rarely forward compatible. Linux usually works well on older hardware, hence my suggestion. And Linux UI/UX has improved dramatically since the late 90s. And I dare say you will rarely need to use bash, unless you really want to customize your install. And lastly, you can always run Windows in a VM if and when you get that M$ itch.
