I've had really good luck with mine. I recently upgraded mine to get faster speeds

Let's establish that the vast majority of houses will never need the lengths of runs that optical afford vs. ethernet. You're talking 300ft as the cable lies for CAT6 standard, arguably longer because your home internet probably doesn't hit 900+Mbps so hitting a full gigabit is likely not necessary.

I've run gigabit Ethernet-Over-Power adapters, in questionably wired up apartments, at +/-500Mbps to local file services, which would be comparable to 802.11AC wireless connectivity at least.

There are benefits to simply wiring up your house properly, I won't argue against that, but things like wireless are fine as long as you're using a reasonably strong pre-shared key on WPA2 and don't have extremely latency sensitive applications. To the guy who mentioned "sniffer sitting outside your house" [sic] that's still technically the case. But wireless access has been hardened significantly and the vast majority of user-facing services will use HTTPS (or similar) encryption anyway.

I am a huge opponent of that technology. Running high frequency comms on an unbalanced lines is an EMI nightmare. Having said that, I know a few people that use them and they work.

A better solution is using MoCA adapter that runs ethernet over your built in antenna/cable TV lines.

Here is an example of one such solution:
