My new toy. 50w Fiber Laser

Bought a Cloudray 50w Raycus fiber laser on Ebay. Still figuring stuff out. It smells kinda like TIG welding (Ozone, burning metal, and cancer). Currently installing a ventilation system now. I need to figure out good settings for marking, engraving and deep engraving of various materials. This is a hell of a lot easier than mounting something in the CNC mill and hoping everything goes right.

This engraving took about 6 mins. Its been edited. But it is nice to just plop it down, start it and be able to walk away.

Man that is awesome! I have a couple Co2 lasers and of course all the work people want done is on ARs and such where a fiber would be the required tool. I need to get me one. Whats the maximum engraving area?

What's the range on that thing?

Theoretically I could bolt it to my front winch mount and then????

If I roll up behind a Prius at the light, how long would it take to apply an FJB logo?
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Hah. Thanks. Ive been looking at CO2 for a while, but steered away because it doesnt work with steel and aluminum.

        Depends on the lens.
It came with a lens thats for a 200x200mm (~7.9x7.9in) working area. This is the one Im using in the vid.
I bought an extra lens for 110x110mm (~4.3x4.3in).
I could get one for 300x300mm.

The smaller lens gives it better resolution, more powerful beam and smaller work area. It also needs to be closer to the work which can be a good thing (like when object is large, and cant raise head any higher). The smaller ones are also more sensitive to the depth. They will go out of focus quicker when the depth changes.

I did a few lowers already. Pretty happy with the results. Only text so far. I have not done any graphics on them yet. I dont know if I want to mark it, lightly engrave, or deep engrave. All of them have been raw 7075 aluminum. Havent tested black anodized yet.

Im sure theres a lens that will put the focal length out a few feet. It obliterates plastic fairly quickly at 20% power. One quick zap, a puff of smoke, and your job is done.
