WiFi Connect Fail - Not Tech Savy

I have my father's Dell Laptop from Ohio where it had internet from a router/modem by the local cable service, Buckeye Broadband. It worked there. It is now in CA at my residence where it would not accept the router key or password. I have verified that the pw is correct, including case/cap etc. Multiple tries, verified many times that the key is correct as its in our pw book and shows on the iPhone. I re-installed Windows 10, no change, our router is found but message states incorrect password entered.

    Any suggestions ? - thanks

iPhone can show the Network Password, but unless you added to the password section, it may be different. On iPhone, go to settings, Wifi that your iPhone is connected to and poke the i next to the SSID. Just under auto join is the password that is hidden. Poke that and it should show you the password. May require authorization to your iTunes account or in my face, Face ID

I would also suggest connecting the laptop to the router via a network cable and verify the laptop can connect and you can browse the internet

Some modems have a button you can press instead of using a password for Wifi connections.

Thanks Striker. That is exactly what I have done to verify the pw that we have recorded for the other devices in the house. The pw is correct, the Win10 will not accept it. Even after a complete wipe and re-install.

Can you connect via a network cable? have your tried to run the troubleshooter? Right click on the Wifi symbol on toolbar and select troubeshoot problems?

Sounds good Sir! My opinion, it is your router that is the problem, since you reimaged the laptop, any settings within the laptop would be wiped and not cause a connection issue. Connection via a network cable will tell you if the problem is only with the Wifi or the Router. I am not a router expert, but something appears to be blocking the additional device. Can you try adding another device (laptop, phone, etc.) via Wifi?

You can always google router connection via wifi problems and how to resolve them.

Another thought if you have the ability; use you iPhone as a HotSpot. Verizon provided this as a free option to me some time ago. Settings, Personal Hotspot. Selecting allow other to join will provide instructions.

Heh Heh Heh. Hard to admit you are wrong

Verified that the ethernet worked. Tried to re-set "router" but it was really the modem. The router is hidden another 20-inches deeper in a birdsnest of cables to the TV. Cell phone pic'd the router password. Somehow, some way that had been transcripted incorrectly. A upper/lower case error.

                Fixed.

Re-checked the iPhone wifi and the two PW now match. Thanks for the suggestions.
