Hornady Case Tumbler - Replacement Parts

I have an old trusty Hornady Case Tumbler and the plastic started to breakdown and crack. The bowl, lid and strainer were all cracking badly.

Fired up Fusion 360 and designed and 3d printed all new parts. The Hornady Tumbler is back in action.

I also called Hornady and they offered to send me a replacement bowl for free but unfortunately, none of the new bowls were compatible.

The files are located on Printables - HERE.

I always do a moist tumble, Brasso and a solvent like mineral spirits, as I only use cob as the wife is allergic to walnuts.

I am curious if that will vibe-itself apart over time, so PLEASE keep us posted...

What did you print it in? PLA? PETG?

You must have a good size printer.

I printed it in PETG. It's working great so far. Absolutely no wear on the bowl itself.

The printer size is only 300 x 300 but I downsized it a bit so people with Prusas can print this as well.

I also have a wet tumbler from Frankford Arsenal but I never liked it. I think it is a lot louder. I tried the pins but ended up going back to walnut shells and NuFinish.

Looks great, but I have to ask... Was the original lid slotted like that? Or did you do that as a feature in your replacement?

Reason I ask is, it's not a very good idea (whether Hornady's, or yours). It allows lead-contaminated dust to escape the tumbler and spread much further around your tumbler and settle on surfaces and create a long-term lead contamination problem. Unless of course you only use it outside, and wipe it down after each use.

              It does look sharp though!
