I like Blink, but they're wifi dependent. You can wire the doorbell to your existing chime.

What do you mean your wifi if mediocre? Are you not in control of your wifi router?

Hardwire an door ringer/intercom. Use a security camera that looks to the door/porch area. Use two of them so that the person approaching can't look away from one camera without getting picked up by the others. Those cameras record 24x7 so that you have video to review if you think someone comes around but doesn't press the door ringer. The cameras record people arriving and leaving.

I tried several of those doorbell cameras, they all have shortfalls and limited capabilities. What worked best? Security cameras.

Nothing security related connected to WiFi for it to function. Wifi is only for remote access if its needed but the security stuff all works without. Battery backup.

The cost? Not nearly as much as you think and if you're going to buy a doorbell camera and then also pay for some subscription, everything else costs less in the long run.

Don't want to go that route? Get a Simplisafe outdoor door camera. Put up a couple. They have two way audio and they do work. You can get extension cables if you want them powered by hardwire and the battery is backup. You get remote access, notifications. By the time someone even gets close to your door you have video. Where they came from (what car, who is waiting for them etc) is as important as who came to the door.

Tried most of the doorbell cams including Eufy (stay away from that crap, they use their camera to sell you stuff), the apps for them are complete trash.

We've had Ring for several years - works fine so we haven't looked at other options. I'd never buy one that hooks up to Siri, Amazon, Google etc - even though Ring probably also collects data.

Even the door bell cameras supplied by Brinks are just ok and they are in the higher end. I agree with the advice on having cameras set up to monitor approach and set up so one cannot squeeze by without being seen.

I use the Wyze doorbell camera (older model, not the fancy one) - it's hardwired, does not use a subscription service, but does need WiFi (to upload footage to the cloud + live playback). It gets the job done.

How does internet get into your home? Cable and Modem? If that's the case, WI- FI should be in your control down signal from the Modem.

Long before Ring started their time lapse service, I noticed extensive streaming during periods of inactivity. There are too many good doorbell and floodlight camera options available to pay Ring to spy on you.

After replacing several Rings because they die right after their warranty expires I went with Eufy. So far so good.

Eufy, they communicate wirelessly with their own base station. The internet and your network could go completely down and it would still function and record. I have their doorball, door lock, delivery box, a boatload of cameras and an entire alarm system all connected to the base.... and no monthly fees.

Ring flagship works good in our freezing cold and heat
WiFi excellent and powered by doorbell transformer 24 volts

Ring is fine except there is an annual subscription if you want store your recordings. There are lots of other options. They are all about the same IMO. I’d your Wi-Fi is bad you want to take care of that first. None of the camera doorbells like weak Wi-Fi signals
