    Need laptop advice

Main thing is, I'm a cheap SOB, so I'm not buying any multi-thousand dollar ones. I don't play games, so I don't necessarily need the best speed. I haven't bought a laptop in 5 years and didn't know much about them even back then.

I want a laptop because they take up less space. I know they're technologically inferior to desktops but I'm after the convenience of less bulk on/around my desk.

I need to run 2 monitors at as high a resolution as I can get. Is it possible to change video hardware on a laptop these days?

I hate Windoze 10. Is 11 any better?

11 is worse than 10 IMO. You only need 11 if you are buying the latest hardware that requires 11 to support it.

For the most part, you cannot change the video hardware on most laptops. There are a few exceptions but you are not going to find them on a cheap laptop.

There are a few options for running additional monitors. Many laptops have additional video outputs just for that. You can also run additional monitors using the USB port.

The main thing is the video hardware need to be able to drive the higher resolution. Multiple monitors won't help me if the resolution is low.

Even if you could find some sort of graphics capable laptop for cheap, you'd likely need to find a bulky solution for keeping it cool.

How quick do you need it? I just got out of a meeting with Dell a little bit ago and they are coming out with a number of new laptops in May. NDA stuff so I can't say but it looks pretty decent for fairly cheap. They seem to be cramming Nvidia A and T adapters in everything now so you will be fine with monitors.

You can set the resolution separately for each monitor.

                I don't get it.

To me putting a laptop on a desk is all wrong for your "home" or main office. Its a crappy keyboard out in the middle of everything. You planning to put it on its edge and stick alongside A4 binders or something?

Get (maybe 1/2 size slim) desktop and stash it out of the way and today everything like keyboard and mice are bluetooth, so you just got full size keyboard, mouse and put bluetooth monitors whereever.

IMO they keyboard should BE the computer and have trackball mouse attached to side, which except for mouse was how they were at first and IMO they got it right the first time. Maybe a standard size computer box shaped like keyboard then standard snap-on replaceable keyboard/mouse, and under the computer box is provision to attach diff size of batts.

Pro-tip: back of all monitors is 4 M4 (or maybe M5 for bigger) size screw holes in a square 10cm pattern and you can run two 15mm M4 bolts and nuts and washers on top two holes (washers make it bigger) and hang like painting with a little cord. Put some cut up pool noodles behind or other trash to tilt the angles just right.

Anyways, I just got this unit and I'm happy. Its considered a lower end but still "gamer" so should do good on display monitors. I got it because its got touch screen AND backlit keyboard.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Unless you plan on taking your computer to a different location, get a desk top. You can put it on a rack out of the way and have a vastly superior keyboard and mouse. The only reason I bought a laptop was because I needed to travel with it. Also, the equivalent desk top will be half the price. And it’s very easy to upgrade.

If it’s going to be moved all the time is the only reason to get a laptop.

I don't know what that stuff is. I just want to use 2 1920x1080 ish monitors.

If you have big screens already, you can go with a decent mini desktop, like a Intel NUC or Asus VivoMini. They are small enough to be mounted on the back of your screen and won't take up any desk space. They're smaller than a laptop.

You can buy a USB adapter to plug in your 2-3 extra monitors, Mouse/KB, printer and extra storage. There are also just monitors adapters for $15 to add two extra monitors.

You can pick up a decent laptop for cheap at your local Repair shop like ClickAway

This, potentially, has pitfalls but would satisfy the display portion:

Buy a refurb late-model Intel MacBook Pro / Air, and run Windows. Can be had for under a grand on Amazon Renewed for i5/i7, i9 around $1,300.

Their refurbished Mac hardware is honestly the best I’ve come across, and often times resembles brand new gear.
