    MS Outlook

Got a notice from GoDaddy that they are dropping support for Outlook 2010. Somehow connected to Exchange 365 dropping support.

So, what are my options with Microsoft? I want a version of Outlook that supports MAPI and allows me to have PST files on my PC.

Is there a version of Outlook that resides on my PC and keeps the data on my PC?

    Microsoft 365

A Microsoft 365 subscription ($99/yr) lets you download the current version of Exchange and use your PST files: Microsoft Link

They still sell a stand-alone office product. Look for “one-time” or “classic” purchase license.

You might need to investigate how Outlook 2021 deals with PST files, however.

All standalone office products are here:

list – Shop these 0 items and explore Microsoft Store for great apps, games, laptops, PCs, and other devices.

        ETA:

For clarity’s sake, I suggest using Kinguin.net, if you don’t want to support MS and its politics, with your money. More info in post #12.

This is because O365 is getting rid of support for non-modern authentication, which means no IMAP/MAPI.

It's a long time coming because many organizations still allow IMAP/MAPI which skirts MFA.

You can tell Outlook (Office) 365 to store all data on the PC (and not use the cloud). My .pst file(s) are on my hard drive.

You might want to look at Evolution, which is essentially the open source version of MS Outlook. It stores mail in an open format used by just about everything on the planet except for MS Outlook. Uses all standard open protocols, too...along with MAPI if you want it.

                Worth giving a try.

Chatted with MS sales. Was assured Outlook 2021 supports PSTs. Paid the money and downloaded and installed.

Did not tell it about my email accounts but it set them up. It must have peeked at my Outlook 2010 settings.

                  All seems fine.

The new stuff does support PSTs. I know this because we are trying to purge the use of PSTs at my company because they get huge and wind up everywhere.

I am a home user. I keep my PST to a 2 year limit.

I’ve used Kinguin.net before for cheap MS licenses. They aggregate volume resellers that have excess inventory and resell the keys for online activation.

Since it’s an international site, you need to make sure the licenses you purchase are able to be activated in the U.S.

I should have been more clear in my first post, that the MS page I linked was just to show what’s available. I do not endorse giving money to BillyG if at all possible. No way, if I have to run MS junk for a client, or a Win10 VM for the few games that won’t cooperate and run under Wine, will I ever pay MSRP to Redmond.

I paid something like $20 each laptop and its still on and working and gets updates.
                          No issues for me.
