    HTPC Video Card for 4K

    Finally bought a 4K TV (LG C1 65")
The video card in my PC is a 1070 GTX with 8 GB.

Is that OK for 4 K content?

    TIA

If all you’re doing is playback, then it’s overkill for 4K. As long as the card can output HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 1.2 it should be able to output 2160p60 and play protected content.

If you’re looking to re-encode content to 4K, it will more depend on what software is doing the re-encoding, and whether it uses the cores or the CPU to do the encoding.

If you're talking about video playback, then yes a 1070 should be enough. The NTSC standard is just shy of 30 frames per second and a 1070 should have no problem maintaining that for video playback.

If you're talking about games, that's a different story. Older games might run decently at 4k, but certainly not newer games, and definitely not at high quality.

Mostly video play back, Netflix, Prime, etc.

I do game but all I play any more is RUST. I suppose that could change.

        Thanks

7680x4320@60 is the max res on that card. That’s 8K capable, at least from its spec sheet. I dunno if it will actually do it. 4K is no issue. I have an older 1060 in a machine that outputs 4K no problem.

Put it this way....try it and find out because you probably don't want to upgrade right now and overpay.
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)
