Ecobees work with Apple Home if you plan on using other smart home devices that work in the Apple ecosystem

Thanks guys, time to do some shopping!

Edited to add: Just spent some time on Amazon. Looks like there's Ecobee Lite, Ecobee3, and Ecobee4. Seems Ecobee4 has some kind of Alexa integration. Other than that, is it worth the extra $100 at $299?

They charge you an extra $100 to be able to listen to your conversations?

This is the one we received.

I'm assuming the Alexa integration is if you have a whole bunch of other Alexa enabled devices in the home and want to control them from the thermostat...

Edit: LOL I just asked our thermostat to play some music. So apparently this model will play music.

Thank you - that is also the one I think is called Ecobee3, for $199.

Not sure I want or need the Alexa, I don't use any of these "smart" assistants on any of my devices and sure as heck don't need to pay $100 more to have it.

            Thanks guys!

I havent ever had a need to use any kind of voice stuff on a thermostat. It already has an app for your phone and if you really want to you can link that to the Alexa app and have voice control. Really not necessary though. It is convenient to be laying in bed and just pick up your phone and swipe the temp up or down. Also, the scheduling is really easy. They have some "green" BS where it auto programs your stuff to save energy but I turned that crap off.

I will say there is one minor annoyance with Ecobee. They nag you incessantly to buy their filters.

Nest learning thermostat, being able to turn on the air from your phone from anywhere already makes it worth it

I have the Nest IQ outdoor security cameras around my home and their Protect smoke/carbon monoxide detectors inside and its pretty neat being able to have everything integrated onto the app on my phone. I believe any nest product can be added and controlled through the app so that's a +1 for Nest.
