Best 2.5" SATA 1TB SSD that is under $100?

I need two 1 TB SSD's and was wondering what is the best for the buck?

I need one to clone my old Verbatim 120gb SSD C: drive and one for storage of 4K videos I make.

Hynix drives often go on sale on Amazon. Good speed and good quality.
You should also specify what type of SSD drive you are looking for. M.2, 2.5", SATA type, etc.
Your comp may only support particular type.

Crucial MX500 1TB is $99.99 on Amazon. These are great drives and have very good controllers.

I use the Sabrent external USB 3 enclosures for the bare drives. You don’t need to actually enclose them, and can use the header as a USB to SATA interface, which is a JMicron controller and does 550 MB/s.

I’ve been mostly using Samsung 860/870 Evos, but have switched over to Crucial drives for their increased write-longevity, and not-made-in-China status; they’re made (mostly) in the U.S. and Mexico.

Crucial are indeed great drives… I have several now being used for a couple of different applications (laptop, music workstations) and they have been rock solid under fairly high utilization.

Also, don’t forget to over-provision, especially on applications where TRIM support or the native configuration utility can’t run. E.g. there is no TRIM support for bulk-storage USB external drives.

This will ensure the drive has plenty of space to perform migration and BEs to keep performance up.

OP can be set in the drive utility on Windows, but on Macs, I just leave 5-7% of the drive as a contents-less container on a physical partition, to effect the same distinction.

My work laptop keeps crashing due to micron drive sudden disconnect, supposed to be fixed with new micron firmware, does not seem to work, getting it replaced with other brand.
At the same time one runs as storage on home esx with zero issues

crucial mx500 1 tb just bought one for $86 plus tax and shipping from Amazon.

Less than $100 delivered. I think the sale is still ongoing. If you can find Micron for cheaper they are the same as Crucial.

Important that you pick up the MX500. The BX series uses the older controller / firmware and should be generally avoided, is my take. Same thing happened with the 820/830/840 Samsungs. Took a few revs to work the bugs out, completely.

Crucial wasn't even on my radar, so thank you all for that. If I can get a quality SSD and NOT support China is a win-win.

                    That's too bad.

I have Samsung RAM and the sticks are made in S.Korea.

To be more specific, I think the Samsung Pros / SLC are still made in SK, but the EVOs and QVOs / V-NAND are made in China.

Most all SSDs are Chinese, very few that aren’t.

Micron has fabs all over the world and parts come to Mexico from the U.S. for the Crucial drives. But, every single SSD will have Chinese components inside. It’s just the nature of their current rare-Earth production.
