I bought the cheapest M1 Macbook Air for my wife in January, 2021. She complains because it doesn't have a touch screen but has never bothered to learn how to use the touchpad. She also does not like using a mouse. She uses it for email, shopping online and watching Youtube.

I have a five year-old Lenovo Flex 5 with an 8th gen i7 processor and 16 gigs of RAM. I use my laptop for Zoom meetings, making videos with Camtasia, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet, etc. The M1 is much faster in all respects even with 8 gigs of RAM. The Lenovo does heat up but I don't notice the fan. Battery life has been diminished to about 3 hours. The M1 never seems to get warm and the battery will last for a full day of use.

If you are going to run peripherals like an extra monitor or external drive, you need to get a docking station. I bought one for my wife but she doesn't use it much. The docking station uses both of the USB-C ports and requires a power supply. It provides pass through charging for the Macbook. The docking station does get a little warm.

I'm thinking about getting an M1 for myself. Costco has the cheapest Macbook Air on sale for $799. I'd like more RAM and a larger hard-drive. The 512 gig SSD and 8 core GPU model at Costco is $1099 but without the RAM upgrade.

I read someplace Apple is coming out with a new Macbook version in 2022 but I can't remember where I saw that.

OP I used a mac air for several years - loved it.

When work tried to update me to a Mac pro without a real escape key, I told them "no thanks". Eventually they "found" me a 2017 Mac pro model with a real Esc key, which I've been using for last couple of years and quite like.

I don't know about the latest models but the keyboard quality/durability went down dramatically a few years ago, many of the macs with the programable keybar have had keyboards replaced - some more than once.

            Wife's MacBook Air is solid.

            I prefer Dell, Lenovo, etc.

I've been usinge the same Air I bought new 11 years ago. I've dropped it a few times but the aluminum case is really strong. Doesn't even have a single burnt out pixel.

You can probably fix it yourself , what extent is the damage, also look at Slickdeals for Mscbook sales.if you can't fix it.

I have a 2019 Air and I've been really beating on it since new - it's been solid all around. I would recommend.

My Apple Mac book Pro needs speakers. Not my fault ! Apple wants 90 bucks -- they will not get 90cents to fix their crummy product.
Will use external speakers until I need a new model !
                    It will NOT be APPLE!
Even if Apple made a decent product. Their big time support for Brandon is th e#1 reason.

Why not just buy speakers elsewhere for $25 and fix it yourself?
