    Upgrade or Build New Rig?

I managed to snag a Asus ROG Strix 3080ti a few weeks ago and it's been sitting around since. Should I upgrade my current Ryzen 3900 with 2080 and wait for the Zen4 CPUs next year, or should build a new rig with a Ryzen 5900?

My current system runs everything fine, so I'm leaning toward waiting since Zen4 will likely require a new socket and use DDR5.

Put the card in your current system. See how much you like it. Then think about what your want to do. By far getting a video card is harder than just about any other parts right now CPUs aren't easy but you can find them. Motherboards, ram and nvme drives are mostly available. Waiting isn't bad if you can get buy with your current rig,I suspect you can given the current console specs.

I'd say you should consider it, especially if you plan to use the card at 4k resolution. Most testing have found that at 4k, the older CPUs are likely to bottleneck and prevent a RTX graphics cards from reaching its full performance capability.

I don't think you'll see enough of a performance boost to make upgrading worth it. With the new ram coming out I think you're better off waiting and violating a new rig.

Definitely wait for Zen 4. Your current system is recent enough that upgrading to Zen 3 would be a huge waste of money IMO. I built a new system around a 5950X and 3080 a few months ago, but I was coming from an Intel Devil's Canyon platform.

I just finished swapping out my GPU. I thought the 2080 was a big card... Holy cow! The 3080ti is a beast. Glock 21 provided as a reference.

Now I just need to find some free time to game.

80's and 90's are bricks... or cinder blocks. I had a triple fan 90 in this tower at one time and I had to remove a huge multidrive enclosure to get the card in, and this is a full tower (old Thermaltake Element G).

You could get a 5600X or similar to tide you over and push the 3080.
