    Windows 11

I didn't do the Insider this time around so did not have much of an idea what it would be like. I just installed it and it does not seem that much different from W10, at least on surface. Installation from USB stick was easy, took about 30 minutes. I just did an upgrade, will do a clean install in a few days. Yeah, I know I should have stayed with W7.

You get more spyware built-in with the new version.

Haven't really found much more than in W10, but Microsoft is certainly ramping up on selling you stuff in the footsteps of Google and Apple. W11 seems to run a little faster and the SSD random read and write score has improved for some reason according to Samsung Magician.

Leo LaPorte pretty much said it's mostly a cosmetic update. That and it requires secure boot on MBs so older hardware will be a no go if it doesn't have it.

I thought I read that an in-place upgrade will not require TPM but a bare metal install will.

You will still need to run a script to bypass the TPM requirement.

Here's a good conversation from Puget Systems about Win11:

I'll wait a few months before updating.

All I can say is I wish I had not upgraded. Things are more difficult now. I often change audio interfaces and on W11 it is a PITA. Have not looked into how to lessen the pain yet.

Along those lines, has the average consumer benefited much from W7 going to W10? And has processor speeds gained much in the last 5+ years (SSDs have made a difference, but not so much chip speed).

After previously telling me my laptop was ready to upgrade to 11, this morning it said it wasn't ready...

I'll wait, thank you very much...

Just got through updating my neighbor's AMD Phenom II box. It has 16GB DRAM and is their daily box. The update took basically two steps.

                          apt update
                          apt full-upgrade

And it was all done! The operating system upgrade was from Debian 10 to Debian 11.

I see no reason to "upgrade" any version of Microsoft Windows to another version of Microsoft Windows, given the problems in pretty much any version of that OS.

i enabled tpm and was considering it. same as OP.. just do upgrade and do a fresh install later (just a pita for me with time spend for install other applications, on top of putting back all my documents)

but reading here, i think i'll wait. not exactly a burning thing. i guess i'm phased out of trying to get into new stuff all the time.

I did do a fresh install a few days later, a lot easier nowadays with half of the stuff being "apps" W11 is not bad, my major complaint is the start menu which is too small, I don't know what they were thinking or not thinking when they put that together, the rest of the system is stable and not too different from W10.
