Since I don't use Google maps I can't verify the article from personal experience, however, those that do should be able to report whether the pop-up agreeing to share information pops up or not. I don't think the article providers made up the pop-up, it would be too easy to disprove it if they did.

We both overreacted, thank you for your PM.Sorry, I didn't mean any hostilities or negativity towards you.
I was bothered by the clickbait website that is possibly written by AI bots, and is the same owners and same type of content as other websites. It's all marketing BS junk. I did read your link and it was not well written or accurate, so I put them in the CNN category of BS antagonistic garbage.
Then I was trying to say who cares if the directions aren't meter accurate, you'll still get there with the "rough directions."
Be a tar pirate and decide your own course, get your bearing and make your own way. You'll get to where you want to be.

The pop up was part of a forced update that both my wife and I just had. It says to use navigation you have to allow them to track you while using navigation. It says the data is not tied to you personally just used to provide info to other users about traffic and delays.Comment

There we go, exactly what the article was about. The part I wouldn't trust (and again I am not using Google maps) is that the data would not be tied to one's account personally, as per similar Google denials in the past which turned out to be false. The pop up was part of a forced update that both my wife and I just had. Yes, I got the pop up on my new phone. Can't use navigation if you don't agree to it.
As to the info not being tied to an individual. Sure, instead of your name they use a number. They have your location though. How many other people drive from your house to your workplace every day? Not hard to figure out who you are.Comment
