cinebench - has fast is your rig?

i thought i'd beat the xeon processors overall unless cinebench uses only cpu? i thought it'd be more holistic like




userbenchmark gives a better feel good on the stupid $ i overspent (more on the gpu).



so far, i can finally play gopro vids in 4k and high bit and 60fps. it feels i built a rig so i can do vids for the kid but there are things i can use my gopro for personal use.

now i'm just looking for a decent but not too expensive game to play with it. i come from ages of starcraft, dune, etc. more RTS type of person here.

I'm pretty happy with my setup. I don't do all that much multicore processing except for the occasional photo stuff:

Older 3-4 year old, discontinued CPU, still has lots of life. I dont play games though. I bought a 1070ti for Fortnite 50v50. A few days after I got it, they discontinued that and never played again. I did notice my vid card is now worth twice as much used due to bitcoin mining.

Yeah, I say that everytime. Although, its years and years in between and seems to be worth it in the long run. Not like the old days (90s) where next year everything was 2x faster and your rig was no longer good enough.

This new desktop I built replaced an Intel i7 4790k system which is probably 6 years old or so. Still, I'm into the whole system about $3,500. The water cooling loop cost more than I thought it would. I expect this one to last at least as long, and I'm sure I'll be able to upgrade to a zen 4 CPU with a BIOS update should I choose to. Might not be worth it though. This thing is damn fast, and my video encodes are several orders of magnitude faster. The expense was well worth it.

hot dang MrFancyPants.. that's an asesome build! actually wanted the crosshair hero 8 with wifi but the price jumped $100 after / BF 2020. how'd you get that for 3500? i'm in just a little bit over yours with only a 3900x and you seem to have more horsepower for less. i did splurg on 2x2tb nvme drives with 1 being the primary, 64gb ram and bought 2x2tb hdd for backups. of course, i rgb'ed the top fans with 140mm and replaced the rear to 120mm rgb.. all corsair ML series. but the fans were probably <$200 non-performance spending.

I paid retail for most of my components, and that's just what it came to. The 5950X was $829 and the 3080 was $1229, so those two alone were over $2k. I was initially going to build it on a cheaper B550 motherboard, but then the Dark Hero was in stock and I couldn't resist, figured I'm spending top dollar on everything else, why skimp on the motherboard? That was another $400.

Looks like your extra cost may be your storage components, as I only purchased one 1 TB gen 4 NVMe drive for the OS drive, since I already had a spare 1 TB gen 3 NVMe drive which I'm using for an install drive. I also only bought 32 GB of RAM to start wtih, will expand to 64 GB later. I did happen to notice my RAM is way underclocked at 2600 MHz when they should be running at 3600 MHz, so my scores should be a little bit higher. Probably just need to tweak the BIOS settings. Also the CPU looks like it was scored at 3.4 GHz and it's capable of much more than that as well. I just threw it all together and it's running all stock.

I have two Corsair 360mm radiators in it with a Swiftech MCP655 pump, an Optimus CPU water block, XSPC fittings and Primochill tubing, filled with Swiftech coolant. I have 6 Noctua high static pressure fans for the rads, and 2 Noctua and 2 Cooler Master case fans circulating air. It's very quiet and keeps everything nice and cool.
