    Win 10 Pro network problems

2 Windows 10 Pro computers. On same network, same subnet, same Workgroup. They each can see that there is another computer but they can't reach it. PC 1 asks for credentials for the other. I have no password set up on that computer. PC 2 gives a 0X80070035 error. I have done everything suggested in this article.

This error is on a Windows 10 laptop, not the Win 7 desktop. Searching for answers to this issue I found solutions that are relative to a situation that seem to be where all network devices are affected. This situation is different in that only one…

On PC 2 I cannot modify options on DNS Client. They are all protected.

PC 1 has a whole drive Shared. PC 2 has a folder on a drive shared. Both shared with Everyone with no passwords. PC 1 can see a NAS that is on the network. PC 2 does not even acknowledge it is on the network.

    Suggestions?

Start>Settings> search for "Check network status"
Look about an inch from the top, under network status. Are you on a private network? Guest/public?

Start>Settings> search for "Manage Advanced sharing settings"
Do you have discovery and file sharing turned on?

Aside from the issues that PC2 is having, "everyone" does not mean anonymous logins. And that is exactly what each PC sees accounts from the other as being.

You usually have to modify group policy or registry to enable anonymous network access which will then allow users from one PC to see and access public folder shares on the other. You may also need to enable the guest account and grant the guest account access from the network.

re: the other problem you mentioned, When you launch any admin type tools, like the 'DNS Client' - are you right clicking and choosing 'run as administrator'?

It is probably slightly different on Win 10 and maybe varies depending on the exact build of win 10 you are on, but granting anonymous access on Win 7 was like this:

        • Adding Everyone, Guest and ANONYMOUS LOGON to the permissions of the share.
        • Open the Group Policy Editor (e.g. by running gpedit.msc)
        • .
        • Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options
        • - Accounts: Guest account status: Enabled
        • - Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users: Enabled
        • - Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares: Disabled
        • - Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously: YOUR_SHARE_NAME
Also W10_1709 made further changes, you can see here
This article describes how to enable guest logons policy in SMB2 and SMB3 for Windows client and Windows Server devices using Group Policy and PowerShell.

Have you tried turning it off then on again? IT crowd is great. Check for updates. Did this just happen or is it a new network?

I think sometime, they blocked sharing if there is no Admin password is set. Try adding a password.

Also, simple DOS ping to see if there is a connection, and connect via IP instead of computer name.

            Good luck!

Well, I got it working. Enabled Administrator account with password on both PCs. Logged into both PCs as Administrator and PC 1 can see and access PC 2 and vice versa. And both PCs can see and access my NAS.

All this just so I could sync my music files.
