    Hosting reccomendations - GoDaddy sucks

GoDaddy just transitioned email - created a total mess for me, and will be charging for email (M$ 365!!) instead of FREE... poor communication of the changes and new charges are enough for me to say buh-bye!

Have a half dozen domains "parked" with minimal use/traffic, mainly use the email accounts to have "personal" email domain. Don't need anything fancy, probably mainly placeholder pages at the domains until I get around to doing something with them!

I use https://www.ionos.com/ for my domains. Had no problems with them.

I have 6 email addresses that GoDaddy transitioned to Exchange. All went well except for one problem. Apparently Exchange does not support catch all accounts. It does support aliases so I had to think of all the addresses I had made up and define them as aliases. I am sure some folks are getting rejected emails.

Hover.com is supposed to be a very good place do manage domain names. They also offer migration services off GoDaddy

A full O365 account does support catch-all accounts, but it's a small pain in the *** to implement.

Look at doing an AWS. You can host your own for 43 bucks a year.

Same boat here, we basically went from $17.99 (domain and 1 email) to ($17.99 + $28.68) $46.68 per year. That is about 159.47% price increase just for a domain and email. Sure we may get more from 365, but it is wasted in my case.

I do not see the "Microsoft 365 Email Essentials Basic" on their site: https://www.godaddy.com/email/profes...business-email So, maybe they will get rid of that someday, and it will be $5.99 per month or $89.87 total annually.

I rarely use some of my domains as well, so not really worth it for me at this point for a few emails a year. I am looking into google domains or namecheap for some of my sites.

Most people will just pay...so maybe look into buying some GoDaddy stock, lol.

I think it more likely that most people didn't catch the 'fine print" when they sent out the "don't worry, everything will be smooth and seamless" email...

They neglected to emphasize that wildcards wouldn't work without a rediculous workaround (took me 2 passes and over an hour, still not sure how it works, it just does for now... but still have "lost" nearly a week of "wildcarded" emails....

And they DEFINITELY didn't say a thing about the new NON-free email - only briefly saying something about a two month trial...

I feel that Go Daddy can do what they want, but they have lost my business as soon as I can find alternative hosting/email - just Googling, I have found several highly rated options at pretty cheap rates for what I likely will need.

I've had web hosting for decades, and email has ALWAYS been a "free" feature. I'm sure GoDaddy got a kickback from M$, and they are hoping it's too much hassle for people to switch - Outlook 365 is nothing special at best, and I think GD and M$ are going to lose the gamble, but I could be wrong.

As a matter of principle, I cut loose any vendor that changes terms to the "deal" adversely or slyly, as GD did....

I have a saying: with the amount of wasted man hours spent reimplementing the failed vision of Microsoft as the juvenile Unix it attempts to be, humanity would have already conquered cancer, settled the moon, created sustainable fusion and solved world hunger.

The pestilence of Microsoft products is the largest time sink of all human existence.

Anyone who uses or thinks their products are worthwhile is deluded.

Find a hosting provider that rejects wokeness and Microsoft. I suggest Epik for their 1A stance. I moved my domains from GD at the beginning of this year after they dumped ARFcom. GD cozying up to MS makes that move that much better.

I’m in the same boat as you, OP. Mine transitioned last Fall, and I wasn’t pleased at all. Went from being reasonable to quite expensive overnight, having to pay for something which has been free for years and is little used.

I put it on the back burner, as they charged for the year, but I too need to find a migration solution before the renewal comes around.

                          Tagged for future responses.

I have a little time, but backing up and preparing to move will take a little effort, so I'm actively looking at the alternatives...

Epik looks promising, as does hostgator and hostinger so far... got to sit down and determine exactly what the "must haves" are, and who can deliver at reasonable costs.

I'll be asking GD for refunds once I've moved, due to the change of contractual terms without reasonable notice. I think a lot of people "didn't read the fine print" on the email changeover, and will be VERY unhappy when they discover what GD is trying to pull. My only focus for now is taking my business elsewhere.

Epik has been very easy to deal with.
