    Strange WiFi problem.

Netgear R6220 WiFi router. Dual band 2.4Gh/5Gh.

At bedtime I noticed my phone had no WiFi but my iPad did. Phone was on 2,4 band and iPad was on 5. iPad reported no 2.4 band was available.

Power cycled router and all came back.

    Strange.

iPads and iPhones have notoriously flaky wifi. I know I know some people out there will claim theirs never have any issues and its as if God himself blessed the wifi on your iCrap device. But, we have several hundred iPads and probably into the 1000's of iPhones and have no end of issues connecting them to hotspots, corporate wifi, Cradlepoint devices, etc etc. Generally just powering them off and back on fixes them. Sometimes just turning on airplane mode for 20 seconds and then back off fixes them. We pay a guy to support these exclusively. Supporting iDevices is his whole job.

I myself have to always reset my ipad in my truck and/or my work iphone when trying to use wifi on them. ipad hotspot to the iphone.

Ex- Apple Support Manager here: Also run an app like iStumbler or another wi-fi sniffer program to check in anyone close by may be broadcasting on the same channel and if so change your 2.4 channel.

There are various free apps for either MacOS or Win.

What is the age of your device???

As the IT help desk says- Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Have you searched for firmware updates?

3 years. And as mentioned I unplugged and replugged it to get it working again.

The iPad (5th gen) had a 5G connection. My Samsung S10 had a 2.4g connection. That is how I realized the 2.4 was out.

There are 3 other WiFi devices on the same channel but they are -66 dBm or weaker than my -39 dBm signal. My 5G signal is -44. The closest one is -89.

I have NEVER had this happen on any Android tablet we own...
Not saying it doesn't happen on some devices,
just not on the ones we have owned... and just sayin'... ... ...

I DID have this happen on Droid and Droid 2 devices I think it was, but this was when the ASUS RT-66U was calling it quits...
and on it's VERY last leg...

                    ...OR before you cycled power...

iPhruity devices need to be rebooted once in a while, MORE than Android, from what I have seen... ... ...

As far as rebooting your router, unless it is plugged into a pure sine wave UPS, it might have been power-related?

                        1) Apple’s proprietary drivers and silicon. Apple does not follow the rules or industry when crafting their drivers and chips for wireless. That means that while the industry zigs on how to handle key renegotiation, for example, or packet return timing, Apple zags. Apple does it differently for, reasons.

This leads to subtle incompatibilities in their chipsets with established standards, and one manifestation is randomly dropped WiFi. Generally the established solution is that you need more gain on the signal as Apple devices will disconnect more quickly and hunt for a stronger signal. If your signal is above 70 rssi, then interference from an adjacent AP may be to blame.

                        2) Netgear radios suck. Not sure if it’s an artifact of being manufactured in Vietnam vs. China, but one of Netgear’s biggest bugaboos is flaky and failing radios.

However, a number of the various chipset vendors recently released new drivers for the WiFi radios in a metric ton of devices to thwart another WPA2 vulnerability. It’s possible that they aren’t entirely stable, just yet, if you recently updated firmware.
I do recall stories from my father that installed DSL prior to Fiber in people's homes (he USED to be a GTE Lineman, then started doing DSL, then Fiber endpoints) and he mentioned that Macs had issues with basic, run of the mill, WIRED Ethernet DHCP compatibility on iPhruity devices when Apple's iOS (su)X was starting out, and before, on older devices too...

This seems to correspond with his stories about iPhruity devices, then.
Now they run Intel procs on Macs and PC video cards, AFAIK, so meh BSD...
                        Linux-based FTW.

2nd a wifi sniffer...probably a neighbor wifi on the same channel causing interference.
If a channel change and firmware updates doesn't fix the problem, you may need a new router.
Having similar issue with my Linksys router, about the same age.

How many devices that you don't know what they are, are on your router?
(Hint: you have to login to your router to check...)

None. My router is set to not allow new connections.
