    Microphone Volume Extremely Low

    Hello,

A few days ago, my Beats Solo3 mic was working just fine. It was plugged into the jack and everything was good. As of yesterday, the microphone has gotten so quiet that it only detects audio if i flick the microphone or i literally put it in my mouth. I thought it was a problem with my Beats, so I plugged in my Turtle Beach headset and same issue. I have my mic volume at 100% and boosted 30 DB, I have reinstalled my Realtek drivers, I have made it Do Nothing if there is background audio. This is very frustrating as I need this microphone for Zoom mic test calls and communicating on games. None of the solutions I found on the internet are working, and it is even affecting my laptop's built-in speaker.

    Specs:

    ASUS FX505DT Laptop

    Ryzen 5 3550h

    GTX 1060

The normal response is reinstall Windows,

I think there is a better way.

      So the basics

Have you rebooted and run windows updates?

Have you gone into Sound settings?

I know you did not change it.... but dig around....

Sound Output- is the card outputting where you want it
Input- is your headphone selected? What other inputs for sound does your laptop show? Is the laptop for some reason trying to activate an old device you no longer have? or a microphone in alexa in the other room???

Device properties- test your microphone... is the sound level moving up and down when you type or speak? Trying to see if it is a hardware or software issue.

Right click on the speaker icon
      open sound settings...

if the microphone is correct- try using an old cell phone earbud
      try the troubleshooter too
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

also check if your mic is the default recording device. it may be defaulting to your machine's built in mic.

common issue when people don't switch device types - default vs. default communications.
