    UR-Browser for Win-XP?

Anyone familiar or use the UR-Browser for Win XP PC's?

Firefox (older version) just doesn't do it anymore. (Ver.52.9.0 ERS channel) Ten minute page loads taxes my patience a bit, if a page loads at all.

I don't have experience with any of the other obscure browsers either like "Pale Moon", "Midori", "Maxtron", etc. I'd used Opera years ago, but they finally dropped XP too.

    Thank you.

    Respectfully
    Kyle

I am familiar with all the above-mentioned browsers. These are all rarities.

What is your question regarding UR-Browser? It's not too common in the States.

Pale Moon is an open-source version of Firefox.
    Midori is mostly Linux-based.

Maxtron is a straight-up Chinese browser.
You can use Opera (I believe v36) on XP.

I have no idea what your question is.
These are not your everyday browsers.

Are you really still running XP for everyday computing purposes?

Windows XP? Do you realize XP has more security holes than a cheese grater?

Sorry I wasn't clear. I realize these are not main stream but would like to be able to use the machine with the Internet.

I need to replace Firefox, and know nothing other than little snippets off the web about the above browsers. Which would be a better download to use as a replacement.

Is there a particular browser that you could recommend?

        I appreciate your response.

I had to go with a new computer once Foxfire dumped Windows XP. My computer worked fine, did everything I wanted, but I was no longer able to update my drivers beyond XP, and Foxfire no longer supported XP.

Planned obsolescence, I am sure the software was easy to upgrade, but they make more money forcing you to buy new stuff.

            Upgrades are violence!

Especially considering that Firefox is free. No one wants to upgrade for the OS full of security holes. If you want to use old hardware, install Linux.

Thanks for all the responses and links.

                (The PC is a 64 bit Athlon/2 64 bit)

Again thanks all. I'll keep researching with your help.

If you are not tied to any specific, obligatory software you could definitely run Linux Mint on your hardware.

You'd have the safety, security and peace of mind of having the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Opera, Brave, Waterfox, Dissenter ... whatever browser you could think of.

If most of your time is spent on a browser you'd hardly notice the Operating System, really. It would run smoothly and is aesthetically pleasing.

It would be supported until April of 2025 but can be pushed even longer.

You'd also have several flavors to choose from and all you'd need to install it is a $5 flash drive.

Linux Mint is an elegant, easy to use, up to date and comfortable desktop operating system.

First, Firefox is my browser of choice because A.) it's Free Software, and B.) there's NoScript available for it (now also true for the Chromium browser).

Windows XP? Yeah, time to upgrade your entire OS if you're going to be surfing the Internet due to all the security holes in XP.

I just recently did this with a Phenom II, which is just your Athlon64/2 with a couple more cores. Read this thread.

I would strongly suggest you try Debian GNU/Linux. The graphical installer is actually pretty darn easy. I would suggest either the Xfce or LXQt desktops; both work very well on older hardware and are surprisingly full-featured.

Lubuntu is another good choice, from the *Ubuntu family of distros. It's Ubuntu with the LXQt desktop.

If your computer has 4GB of memory or less, then Raspberry Pi OS ("Raspbian") would be a good choice. It's more known for running on Raspberry Pi computers, but yes, there *IS* an x86 version of it! It, too, has a nice, clean desktop that gets the job done efficiently.

To be a true Liberal, you must be 100% pro-Second Amendment. Anything less is inconsistent with liberalism.

If he's going to change OS he can just use Firefox.
