Skip both. Get a Linux phone. Time to make them the preferred option.

I took the old 7 to a TMO store and bought an 11 there. The store guy called customer care and started the transfer. It took around half an hour, so I went next door and got pizza & beer lunch while I waited. Zero hassle.
True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

I am glad I don't have these problems with any Android... ... ...
Data and OS are, let's put it in the words of Offspring:
          "...keep 'em separated"

Android is more well planned out regarding data than iPhones?

          Who would have thunk?

Then again, Android was the first to run multiple apps at the same time, rather than suspending one to start another...

I would love to agree but I hesitate recommending either option yet to someone I don't know. I'll have to update my pinephone again to see if it has gotten better, but a couple months ago it was barely usable as a daily driver. Still waiting for the Librem 5. Since I waited until march 2019 to order, I probably have a few more months before mine ships out.
Hopefully once evergreen gets all shipped out, there is enough development into them that linux phones become a clear alternative.

I couldn't agree more. I've always believed in Linux phones and was one of the first Ubuntu Edge contributors some years ago. The two options that I'm aware of at present are the new-spec PinePhone and the Librem 5. Of those, the Librem 5 is now actually in production, and while the numbers are still small right now, Purism is gradually ramping up.

Yes, it will be some months yet. People who ordered in 2017 are just now starting to get them, but, again, production is gradually ramping up. Note that Evergreen is the production version and what you will get.

I use an IPhone 5; it is a “burner” that I purchased at Target, and get service through TracFone. A one year card is $99, and I’ve never used up all the data, minutes, or any of that. I like it because I can text easily, and connect to WiFi at home. I don’t need anything newer, but it will eventually die off, as the battery now needs to be charged daily. I’ll upgrade when that time comes, and throw the old one into the campfire for secure destruction.

Splithoof, buy a new battery for under $20 and install it yourself. It's simple on the iphone 5.

You SHOULD ALWAYS charge EVERY day, it isn't a NiMH, nor a NiCad...
Manufacturers take a conservative approach and specify the life of Li-ion in most consumer products as being between 300 and 500 discharge/charge cycles.…

Deeper cycles make Lithium-based weaken even more, every time they are deep-cycled...
