    Outdoor POE+ switch

I have 8 4K cams. I want an outdoor switch so I don’t have 8 cables running in my house. I’d rather have 1 going to my router from the switch than 8.

Can anyone recommend an outdoor switch or switch with a weatherproof box, we also live in north Idaho and it does get cold.

Ideally we would like to not spend a fortune on it, but I also don’t want a cheap pos. I have seen so many different brands, it makes it hard to sort out what may be a good brand.

    Thanks.

I've had to do this exact setup several times for friends and family:

Here's the inexpensive, simple, solid route: purchase 8 pre-cut black, shielded, CAT6/CAT6A/CAT7 burial ethernet cables. Burial, Burial, Burial - that's what matters.

Buy several rolls of clear self-fusing silicone tape. If you have access to a heat gun, heat it up at the terminations and roll several inches above and below the connector.

Bring all 8 cables into the property through a pre-drilled hole, via short PVC pipe that you will infuse with sealant foam.

The only time I didn't go this route was when I had to make sure that the switch also had out-of-band connectivity because if it's up high (where you had initially used a crane) you don't want that to be an issue you'll ever revisit.

If you necessarily buy the hardware it will be if the [R]ugged series and can get expensive. eBay, post-lease is the source for that market.

So, drawing the 8 lines indoor will make it that much easier on you. One thing you'll have to consider is the distance for your802.3at setup

Half of the lines coming from our stable and stable area will be run in conduit and be buried. The other four will be run along the eaves of our house. I have an existing hole where one will fit without having to make a larger hole in the side of our house. Hence the outdoor switch. I can run everything to the switch and run one wire to the hole in our exterior wall.

I just see so many unknown to me brands of outdoor switches with and without enclosures out there. It will be protected under our breezeway, but we have temps to the teens with snow, rain and ice. I don’t want to spend a fortune buying what may be a piece junk when other people may have experience in this area.

I have bought burial cable at requested lengths from a reputable eBay dealer for really good prices.

They don't get weathered (or basically I never want to have to revisit it to fix a downed line). The guage of the burial cables are heavy duty enough for sun rays all day long for years, etc.

I'm out n about right now but I'll PM you some deals I'll spot. I'm used to buying industrial equipment so I've never had anything go bad on me.

Are you looking at 15 watts per port?
