Need help selecting a monitor for PS4, future PS5?

I need to purchase a monitor for under $300 that will sit on a computer deck and be hooked up to a PS4, maybe a PS5 in a year? I would like it to be a bit future proof and get the most form the console that I can. I got a few questions:

1. Will a 27inch monitor impact performance (FPS) vs 21inch monitor ?
2. Will a 4K monitor impact performance (FPS) vs a 1080P monitor if PS4 is set to AUTO resolution?
3. If the PS4 is set to 1080p and a 4K monitor is hooked up will the image look as well on it as it would on a 1080p monitor?

Currently thinking of something like a 23-27inch, 4K, HDMI v2, 60Hz, 1ms, TN panel. Is there anything else I need to be looking for?

At this price you're either going to sacrifice resolution or refresh rates. If you're only going to go up to 27" max, you might consider going for 1440 (2k) vs 2160 (4k) and getting a bit more refresh for the money. You'll probably find the refresh rate more beneficial than the resolution. To my eyes, a 144hz or even a 120hz refresh rate is noticeably smoother than a 60hz panel. Of course this is most relevant if you move up to a PS5. A PS4 isn't really going to give you true 4K.

PS5 will support 1440p, but the PS4 does not. Since 1440p is not really a TV resolution, being only popular as a PC gaming resolution, you're likely to see it thrown into console games as an afterthought. Meaning it probably gets very little testing by games developers outside of PC releases, so the potential for bugs at that resolution are higher. PS5 supports 120hz, so I'd probably choose high refresh 1080p at your size and price range.

PS4 being capped at 60FPS I would not have guessed that anything over 60Hz would be beneficial in a monitor. I guess I'll be going down in resolution to 2K and upping the Hz to 120Hz+
