I have about had it with cable. For years, I have used tivo and only watch recorded shows. Now, discovery and science channel have commercials throughout the shows. Discovery has logos or messages on other shows or a shark constantly moving around their logo for shark week, through the entire episode of an adam savage show I wanted to watch. One show has a commercial take over 3/4s of the screen so it fills 3 panes, with the show reduced to one pane.
It isn't worth watching a few shows if they are filled with ads. I watch a lot on youtube and have firefox and ublock origin, which also works on the imdb channel of amazon video. A cable from my computer to the big tv in my bedroom allows me to watch anything on firefox, but I only watch TV for a while in bed to fall asleep. Most of the other stuff I watch on my desktop computer.
Also, I found a great wireless remote/keyboard to run my computer from the bedroom. When I upgrade my desktop, I might move that PC to the bedroom. When out of town for work, I record youtube videos to the memory card in my phone and download netflix or amazon shows before I leave home.
There were a few good shows on cable, so I have hung on, but the ads have ruined them so there is no point to keeping cable.
Pandora premium takes care of my music needs, although the app and the lists they create for you, really suck. I find most tech is made for the sheep and pushes what they want to sell, but I have always been into building my own computers and customizing software to fit my needs whenever possible. There are countless notifications and "features" I have disabled on my phone and computer to cut the crap (basically more advertisements or intrusions of my time).
