Looking for a robust and functional WiFi router?

    Hi Guys

Was wondering if any of you could recommend a good home WiFi router? Something I would say around $200 (because in my experience, $100 routers suck). Looking for something that I can change the MAC address to be able to connect to my provider's network, and allows third-party VPN and DNS providers.

It is just that my Netgear AC1750, purchased around 3~4 years back, is unable to keep up with the number of devices at home. We have all those computers, tablets, smartphone/watches, security, home automation, etc. ... Lately because of WFH policies, I have to reboot my router every morning or I won't be able to connect.

There is just so many choices out there... And shifting through all the FUDD and the reviews is giving me a headache.

    Thanks in advanced!!!

I'll let you have a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC2600 Smart WiFi Router (R7450) for $100, shipped. It retails on Amazon for ~$150 right now, and I only used it for about a month, as I needed more guest SSIDs (WiFi names) to cut off my kids Internet independently of each-other. Almost NIB, slightly used.

Not an expert by any means, but how fast is your internet now? Go to speedtest net and find out. Others then can chime in on whether a router would help or not. Good luck.

It seems any new device past 19 cannot, ie., can't get an IP nor if connected, can't reach out to the internet.

I use a custom configuration in the router and have re-checked my math - it should allow for 36 devices.

The only solution is a reboot of the router.

I don't think it has to do with the bandwidth since the problem is already manifesting itself that 'additional' devices can't get an IP.

That said with our usage, our current plan is more than sufficient. I just re-checked with SpeedTest - 65Mbps.

Bought this one about a year ago, after I got weary of my kids complaining about how they couldn't use their gaming console reliably. They never seemed to appreciate that rapid obsolescence could be a feature (last router upgrade was circa 2012-2013).

This one has been OK. I have seen some on here have a dislike of Asus routers, but so far I have no complaints.

Consumer reports recently updated their ratings. Unfortunately it was after I bought the one pictured above.
