iPad question. How to send photo instead of video?

Up until now I've been very successful at avoiding all things Apple. But now I'm required to do video visits and I was assigned an Apple iPad. The thing is their model A2200 which I believe makes it a 10.2" 7th Generation.

They have, of course, disabled some functions to include at least the Touch ID thing.

They have not arranged for the iPad to be at proper height while I am working with folk which means it will be forever at the wrong height. And since I'm supposed to use another computer and its 24" monitor as I type - it means that much of the time I won't even be looking at the iPad's camera.

So what I want to do is to change things so that I take a photo of my ugly mug and then instead of streaming video of myself frequently looking in the wrong direction, simply send the photo to them - and I suppose that would have to be done as a video stream?

I have not figured out how to do that, however. My GoogleFu is not up to the task or maybe it just can't be done. But I'd think it should be possible to do.

Oh, and I don't think I can upload apps but it is possible I'm wrong about that.

BTW, I think there is supposed to be a "General" tab/button on the iPad under "Settings". That "General" tab seems to be hidden or otherwise not accessible.

If someone knows how to set this up to transmit the photo, not video, I'd greatly appreciate that.

Edit: The app which I will have to use is "Canto". It will be somewhat loosely tied to our computer system and as best I can tell it will be sending and receiving over a wireless phone system.

That is not a native function of IOS - loopback / mixing of an image into the camera stream. And I am not sure there are any apps that do it, or if apple would even allow it.

So what you want to do is going to be entirely up to the app you are using for video conference. If the video chat app does not have a function to use a static image of an attendee instead of their video stream, you are left with the old school hack:

Make a bracket for the ipad that suspends a photo of you in front of the camera

      Thank you.

Canto is the app and I've not found that functionality as of yet.

I'll have to look for a bracket - or make one. . .

I'll look at how to make that work.

But I also have a router and such so I could end up going that way as well. But I duct tape, popsicle stick, and glue could be much faster and probably a bit lighter and cheaper.

Well, maybe not faster. The craft stores are totally closed. That means I'd have to order online to get the popsicle sticks. Still, it could ultimately be the best way.

Are you using FaceTime to do the visits or another application like Zoom or ??? If using another app you should be able to disable your video while still being able the see the patients feed.

I'm afraid the app is Canto.

It looks like the Powers-That-Be have tied it much more closely to the Epic system than I first thought. I've not figured out how to change pretty much anything in terms of the settings.

There is a "custom configuration" virtual button which makes me happy at first and then made me sad/frustrated when all it would do is form a little tab which wouldn't do anything and then subside back to just a virtual button.

I don't think they trust me/us not to try to hack it - or just plain mess it up. I wonder why. . .

I'll probably have to have the iPad to the side of the monitor and I'm considering creating a small bit of cabinetry to hold both the monitor and the iPad and maybe improve the rats' nest of wires/cables which tend to arise over time.

Possibly be able to rotate things a bit too. The problem is that I'm still a beginner when it comes to woodworking and wood and such aren't all that cheap, either.

I'm still pretty sure I can build the supporting cabinet and make it all work but it will take up more time than I wish and if I hurry it the look won't be all that great either. But I do have some poplar around which might do the job. Plywood isn't horribly expensive either.

Every way I model it out, for most issues a televisit is not going to be good medicine. There are a few things where it should be adequate. But then, right now an in-person visit is at least a bit of a risk for all involved.

And yeah, I suspect most televisits will be quite brief and that almost all will be 99212-type visits.

What I don't like is that I'm quite sure people will try to schedule televisits for chest pain, abdominal pain, dyspnea, back pain, and a whole bunch of other things which really require the laying on of hands, stethoscope, and such. There's a reason why we spend a long time in training learning how to do a good problem-appropriate physical examination - and it wasn't because that exam is irrelevant.

The flip side is that probably 90-95% of the time I have a good idea what the problem is before starting the official physical exam. The history tells you a lot. But then, from my point of view, the body language, how difficult it is to get up on the exam table, and other things can be telling and aren't considered by some to be part of the exam. Much or maybe most of that will be unavailable with how I think the televisits will proceed.

Sometimes, though, there is no real choice and you have to do the best you can under the circumstances.

                  Thank you.
